Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Out of Tuesday's lineup

LeMahieu (knee) isn't starting Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News reports.

LeMahieu is being considered day-to-day due to right knee inflammation, but even after a day off, he isn't feeling healthy enough to start. Skipper Aaron Boone did note that LeMahieu will be available off the bench if needed, per Coley Harvey of ESPN.com. With LeMahieu and Gio Urshela (hand) out of the starting nine, the Yankees will turn to Tyler Wade at the hot corner and Thairo Estrada at the keystone.

Rays' Matt Duffy: Getting ABs in extended spring

Duffy (hamstring/back) has progressed to getting at-bats in extended spring training games, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The news continues to be positive for the rehabbing infielder, who resumed most baseball activities in mid-April. While the fact he's seeing some semblance of game action is certainly a positive, Duffy still remains without an official timetable for return according to manager Kevin Cash.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: MRI reveals no new issues

LeMahieu underwent an MRI on his right knee Monday which revealed nothing worse than inflammation.

LeMahieu was diagnosed with inflammation after leaving Sunday's game against the Giants, but he evidently escaped a more severe injury. He's considered day-to-day.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: X-rays return negative

Urshela's X-rays on his left hand came back negative, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Urshela was hit by a pitch on his left hand and wrist area, but he managed to avoid a fracture. With the Yankees taking advantage of an off day Monday, Urshela could be right back in the mix for Tuesday's matchup with Arizona.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Errors piling up

Devers made an error that led to two unearned runs in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Rays.

Devers has made improvements at the plate, laying off pitches outside zone and walking more than last season, but his defense remains an issue. He's made eight errors in 28 games after being charged with 24 all of last season. Manager Alex Cora commented on the issue after Sunday's game. "We see the great plays and then that happens," the skipper told Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. "Honestly, as a manager, as a defensive player, I'd rather him make the routine plays rather than the five-star plays. That's a mark of consistency. We're going to keep working on it." Cora is wary of giving away outs and extending pitch counts, which affects starters' ability to get deep into games. There's no indication that Devers will be replaced as the everyday starter at third base, but with Eduardo Nunez (back) beginning a rehab assignment this week and Michael Chavis looking like he belongs in MLB, Devers' playing time might get squeezed.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Headed for X-rays

Urshela was sent for X-rays on his left hand following Sunday's game against the Giants, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Urshela was struck by a pitch there in the series finale, so he'll undergo further evaluation to uncover the extent of the issue. With an off day on tap Monday, Urshela could be back in action for Tuesday's matchup with Arizona if his X-rays return negative.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Dealing with knee inflammation

LeMahieu has been diagnosed with right knee inflammation after leaving Sunday's game against the Giants, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. His X-rays came back negative.

While it's good news that LeMahieu's X-rays returned negative, it remains unclear if he'll be forced to miss a game or two while nursing right knee inflammation. He's slated to undergo a precautionary MRI on Monday, per Coley Harvey of ESPN.com. If LeMahieu is ruled out for Tuesday's matchup, expect Tyler Wade to draw the start at the keystone.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Lifted between innings

LeMahieu was replaced at second base between innings Sunday after slowly making his way off the field, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

LeMahieu carefully walked off the field at the end of an inning and appeared to have trouble making it down the dugout steps, although it's unclear as to what was ailing him. He banged his knee during Saturday's matchup, so it's possible he's still being bothered by the same issue. LeMahieu will benefit from an off day Monday before the Yankees begin a two-game series with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Leading off Sunday

Candelario is starting at third base and batting leadoff in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

This will now be six straight appearances as the Tigers' leadoff hitter for Candelario, as he's clearly taken the baton from the struggling Josh Harrison. The 25-year-old hasn't been lighting the world on fire with his .239/.333/.315 slash line, but his placement atop the order could lead to more runs moving forward.

  • Twins' Willians Astudillo: Heading to injured list

Astudillo was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Astudillo exited Saturday's game as he appeared to suffer the injury while running home on a sacrifice fly. The severity of the strain remains unclear, but the 27-year-old will be eligible to be activated from the IL on May 8.
