Astros' Abraham Toro: On bench for matinee

Toro isn't starting Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Toro had started each of the last five games, and he went 7-for-21 with a home run, six RBI, three runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Robel Garcia will start at the hot corner and bat seventh.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Rolls ankle in loss

Moncada rolled his left ankle in Friday's loss to the Mariners but was able to remain in the game, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Moncada suffered his injury when he had to duck out of the way to avoid getting hit by a pitch Friday, but he was examined by a trainer and cleared to stay in the game. He went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk in the 9-3 loss. The 26-year-old is receiving treatment following Friday's matchup, and he'll be examined again Saturday morning to determine his status.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Good to go Friday

Urshela (shin) will be in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

The 28-year-old was held out of Wednesday's lineup after being hit by a pitch on the right shin Tuesday, but he'll rejoin the starting nine after Thursday's scheduled off day. Urshela is 8-for-20 with two homers, a double, four RBI and four runs in his past five games and will attempt to pick up where he left off.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Twins' Josh Donaldson: Rejoins lineup Thursday

Donaldson (calf) is starting at third base and batting second Thursday versus Cleveland, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The veteran third baseman sat out the last five games while managing a calf issue, but he'll return to the lineup coming off Wednesday's scheduled off day. Donaldson is 2-for-16 with seven strikeouts over his past seven games and will attempt to get back on track now that he's feeling better.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Moves to IL

The Rays placed Walls on the 10-day injured list Thursday with right wrist tendinitis, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Walls was scratched prior to Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Red Sox with the wrist issue, which was believed to be only a minor concern before he surprisingly landed on the IL a day later. His move off the active roster at least temporarily clears up the logjam in the Rays infield that was created when top prospect Wander Franco was promoted to the big leagues earlier this week. While Walls is on the shelf, Franco should see most of the starts at shortstop, freeing up second base and third base for Brandon Lowe and Joey Wendle, respectively.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: On bench Thursday

Urshela (shin) will remain on the bench for Thursday's game against the Royals.

Urshela was struck in the shin by a pitch Tuesday and did not appear in Wednesday's contest. He'll sit for at least one more day, with DJ LeMahieu again sliding over to the hot corner and Rougned Odor starting at second base.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Enjoys big day at plate

Toro went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in a 13-0 victory versus Baltimore on Wednesday.

When Toro came up to the plate in the seventh inning, Houston was already ahead by eight runs. He padded that lead with a 417-foot three-run homer, then capped the scoring on the night with an RBI single in the eighth. Toro has hit safely in all but one game since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on June 17, going 10-for-24 with two homers and nine RBI over that span.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Pulled from Wednesday's lineup

Walls was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Red Sox with right wrist soreness, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Walls was penciled in to start and shortstop and bat eighth, but he's now absent from the starting nine due to the wrist issue. He's available off the bench, so the injury appears to be a minor concern. Brett Phillips entered the lineup in his place.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Still weeks away

Bregman (quadriceps) is still "at least two or three weeks or more" away from returning, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman landed on the 10-day injured list with a left quad strain Thursday, and manager Dusty Baker said right away that the 27-year-old would be out "a while." A better idea of the infielder's status could be revealed once he's able to resume baseball activities, but he could be sidelined until around the All-Star break following Baker's most recent update.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: X-rays on shin negative

Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that X-rays conducted on Urshela's right shin returned negative, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals and is considered day-to-day.

According to Boone, Urshela is merely tending to some soreness in the shin after he was struck by a pitch in the seventh inning of Tuesday's loss. DJ LeMahieu will fill in at third base for Urshela, who could be ready to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's series finale if the pain in his lower leg subsides overnight.
