  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Swats first homer of 2023

Rodgers went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Padres.

In his 36th game, Rodgers finally hit his first homer of the season, driving a Seth Lugo fastball over the left-center field fence in the first inning. The 27-year-old infielder has hit safely in seven straight games, going 12-for-27 (.444) with a double, four runs and four RBI, and with the Rockies finishing their campaign with a seven-game homestand next week, Rodgers could be able to keep his hot streak going.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Slim chance of returning

Manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Gorman (hamstring) has a "slim" chance of returning before the end of the season, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman was placed on the 10-day injured list last Wednesday because of a Grade 2 right hamstring strain and the out-of-contention Cardinals have no real reason to rush him back for the final week. Tommy Edman, Jose Fermin and Juniel Querecuto are currently rotating in at second base.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | NYM

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Heads to bench Wednesday

Bae is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Jared Triolo will start at second base and bat sixth as Jack Suwinski covers center field and hits fifth. Bae went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Tuesday's blowout loss to Chicago and is slashing just .236/.300/.314 across 343 total plate appearances this year for Pittsburgh.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Sitting against lefty

Turang remains out of the lineup Wednesday at St. Louis.

Andruw Monasterio will start at second base and bat eighth as the Brewers face a second straight left-hander in Zack Thompson. Turang has batted just .193 with a .474 OPS this year against southpaws.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Out again with ankle sprain

Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Mets.

Arraez was scratched Tuesday after suffering a left ankle sprain while participating in pregame infield practice. It's a positive sign that he has yet to be placed on the 10-day injured list, and the MLB batting average leader (.354) can utilize Thursday's scheduled team off day to hopefully get himself healthy for the Marlins' upcoming three-game weekend set against the Brewers. Jon Berti will fill in at second base and hit eighth in Wednesday's series finale versus New York.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Held out again Wednesday

Kim (abdomen) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rockies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Kim has been battling some abdominal soreness since the weekend and will miss a fourth straight start. The Padres will go with Matthew Batten again at second base Wednesday.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Perfect at plate Tuesday

Marte went 4-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Giants.

This was Marte's first four-hit game of the season, though all of the hits were singles. The second baseman is batting .339 (21-for-62) over 16 games in September while adding 11 RBI and nine extra-base hits in that span. For the season, he's up to a .279/.360/.487 slash line with 23 home runs, 79 RBI, 90 runs scored and six stolen bases over 142 contests.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Added to lineup Tuesday

Edwards was added to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Edwards will start at second base and bat ninth for the Marlins after Luis Arraez suffered a left ankle sprain during pregame infield practice. It's the first start for Edwards since Friday's series opener versus Atlanta, but he could see a sudden uptick in playing time if Arraez requires an extended absence.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Scratched with ankle sprain

Arraez was scratched from the lineup Tuesday versus the Mets due to a left ankle sprain, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Arraez rolled his ankle during a pregame workout Tuesday in Miami and could need multiple days off for rest and treatment. This injury comes with awful timing for the Marlins, who are currently a half-game back of the third NL wild-card spot. Xavier Edwards is filling in at second base Tuesday night against New York.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Out with sore abdomen

Kim (abdomen) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.

This is the third straight absence for Kim, who came down with some abdominal discomfort over the weekend and is still being evaluated. Matthew Batten will play second base and bat seventh for the Padres on Tuesday versus Colorado.
