  • Jonathan Arauz 3B | LAD

Mets' Jonathan Arauz: Hits bench Wednesday

Arauz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

He'll give way to Danny Mendick at third base Wednesday, but Arauz looks like he'll operate as the Mets' primary option at the position versus right-handed pitching while both Mark Vientos (wrist) and Luis Guillorme (calf) are on the injured list. Arauz started each of the past three games, going 1-for-8 with a walk and an RBI.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Braves' Nicky Lopez: Heads to bench Wednesday

Lopez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Lopez will join fellow left-handed hitter Eddie Rosario on the bench for the series finale while the Mets bring southpaw Jose Quintana to the hill. Vaughn Grissom will cover second base in place of Lopez, who has produced a pair of base hits in both of his last two starts.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: On track for Friday return

Gorman (back) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday as long as he gets through a full workout Wednesday with no setbacks, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Gorman was forced to the IL last week with a balky back, an injury which he initially suffered back during the 2020-21 offseason during a weightlifting incident. He's feeling much better following a pain-killing injection and appears on track for activation when first eligible this weekend as the Cardinals travel to Philadelphia.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

    Giants' Thairo Estrada: Three-hit performance

Estrada went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.

The 27-year-old infielder notched two singles and a double against Phillies starter Taijuan Walker on Tuesday. Estrada has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games, going 15-for-37 with four doubles and a homer during the hot stretch.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Keeps racking up hits

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Atlanta.

Last year's batting champ has returned to form in August, hitting safely in seven straight games and slashing .337/.375/.472 on the month with three homers, two steals, 13 RBI and 15 runs in 22 contests. McNeil continues to mainly play second base, but if the Mets give prospect Ronny Mauricio a look in September, the 31-year-old could shift to a corner outfield spot more frequently.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Hears positive news

India had his foot examined Tuesday by a specialist, who reported good progress in the plantar fascia area, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

India, who said he feels no pain in the foot, took batting practice prior to Tuesday's game against the Angels. "We'll see how I feel running and go from there," India said. "I feel good. All I can do is go based off of how I feel." The second baseman was shut down less than two weeks ago after a setback in the initial stages of rehab. The positive news suggests India can return sometime around the beginning of September, if he remains pain free. Neither the player nor the team are setting a timeline for his return.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Starting after stomach cramp

Arraez (illness) is starting at second base and batting second Tuesday versus the Padres.

Arraez was lifted from Monday's series opener in San Diego because of a stomach cramp, but all is well leading into Tuesday night's tilt at Petco Park. The 26-year-old boasts a .358/.401/.460 slash line through 120 games (507 plate appearances) this season with the Marlins.

  • Mark Mathias 2B | CIN

Giants' Mark Mathias: Moved to 60-day IL

San Francisco transferred Mathis (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Mathis was diagnosed with a right shoulder strain last week and is officially done for the remainder of the 2023 regular season. Kyle Harrison will fill the vacated 40-man roster spot as he prepares to make his major-league debut Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Estrada (hand) is back in the lineup Tuesday at Philadelphia.

Estrada will start at second base and bat second against the Phillies and right-hander Taijuan Walker after missing Monday's series opener due to a bruised right hand. X-rays turned up negative for any structural damage.

  • Liover Peguero SS | PIT

Pirates' Liover Peguero: On bench Tuesday

Peguero is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Peguero went 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBI in Monday's series-opening rout of St. Louis, but he'll grab some pine Tuesday as Alika Williams covers shortstop and Ji Hwan Bae handles second base.
