Mastrobuoni was dropped from the active and 40-man rosters Saturday to make room for Julio Rodriguez's (leg) return from the IL, but the former will officially remain in the Mariners' system after passing through waivers unclaimed. Mastrobuoni, 30, has slashed just .172/.310/.293 through 71 plate appearances at Tacoma and is likely to spend the vast majority of what's left in the season at Triple-A.

Mariners' Miles Mastrobuoni: DFA'd by Seattle
The Mariners designated Mastrobuoni for assignment Saturday.
After having his contract selected by Seattle on July 3, Mastrobuoni made only three at-bats for the big-league club before being DFA'd on Saturday. This marks the second time the 30-year-old has been designated for assignment by Seattle this campaign. With Julio Rodriguez coming back from the 7-day injured list, the Mariners needed to make room for him on the active roster.

The Mariners selected Mastrobuoni's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
