  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: On bench again Tuesday

Hoerner (hand) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Rays.

Hoerner is dealing with a small fracture in his right hand and will miss a fourth straight start. According to Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, the 27-year-old partook in a hitting session Tuesday and will be available off the bench, and he could be back in the lineup for Wednesday's contest. Michael Busch is getting a second straight start at second base Tuesday.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Taking on-field BP

Edman (wrist) will take batting practice on the field at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The switch-hitting Edman was recently cleared to hit from both sides of the plate and will now progress to taking on-field BP for the first time since last October's right wrist surgery. Edman's progress from the operation has been slow and involved numerous starts and stops, but he's been trending in a positive direction for the last few weeks and he might not be far off from a rehab assignment.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Absent from lineup

McNeil is out of the starting nine for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

McNeil will give way to Jose Iglesias at second base with southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the mound for Miami on Tuesday. McNeil remains in the strong side of a platoon with Iglesias, with Iglesias owning a 1.067 OPS in 15 plate appearances against LHP compared to McNeil's .653 OPS against lefties.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Expected to avoid extended absence

Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Rodgers was diagnosed with a "mild strain" of his left hamstring and isn't expected to stay on the injured list for much longer than the minimum 10 days, MLB.com reports.

Rodgers strained his hamstring while running to first base on a sacrifice-bunt attempt in last Friday's game against the Cardinals and was placed on the 10-day IL two days later. While he's not on track to be activated when first eligible next Tuesday, Rodgers looks like he might have a chance to return before the end of June, depending on how quickly he's able to resume baseball activities. Adael Amador was recalled from Double-A Hartford on Sunday and is expected to serve as the Rockies' primary second baseman for the duration of Rodgers' absence.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Demoted to Triple-A

The Marlins optioned Edwards to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

With Tim Anderson (personal) returning from the bereavement list and Otto Lopez (personal) coming off the paternity list, the Marlins will send Edwards and Tristan Gray back to Triple-A after both were up with the big club for the weekend. Edwards, who has missed most of the season while recovering from a bacterial infection of his left foot, appeared in three games against Cleveland over the weekend and went 2-for-9 with a double, two walks and one run.

  • Otto Lopez SS | MIA

Marlins' Otto Lopez: Activated from paternity leave

The Marlins activated Lopez (personal) from the paternity list Monday.

Lopez was away from the club for a few days while welcoming a new addition to his family. He had been operating as the Marlins' primary second baseman prior to going on paternity leave and should regain that role.

  • Adael Amador SS | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: Productive in debut

Amador went 1-for-3 with a stolen base Sunday against the Cardinals.

Amador started at second base and hit eighth in his big-league debut Sunday. He led off the third inning with a single and then proceeded to swipe second base. Amador should get regular run in the lineup so long as Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) is sidelined.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Swipes bag in return

Marte went 1-for-4 with a walk, a steal and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Padres.

Marte was back in Sunday's lineup after being scratched Saturday due to back soreness. His back didn't appear to hinder him, as he picked up just his second steal of the season after walking to leadoff the fourth. Marte has been scorching hot at the plate in June, slashing .462/.548/.846 with three homers, six RBI, six runs and a 4:5 BB:K over his last seven games.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Three hits Sunday

Lux went 3-for-4 with a steal and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Yankees.

Lux put together his first three-hit effort of the season while also tallying his third steal of the year. Despite the three base hits, Lux was unable to drive anyone home and remains with just one RBI since May 19. He also hasn't homered since May 7 and has just four extra-base hits since May 22. The 26-year-old is still looking to find some more consistency at the dish, and is now slashing .216/.268/.292 with 13 RBI, 18 runs and a 12:40 BB:K in 183 plate appearances.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returning to action Sunday

Marte (back) is starting at second base and batting second Sunday against the Padres.

The 30-year-old was scratched from Saturday's starting nine due to lower-back soreness but will end up sitting just one game. Marte is 11-for-26 with three homers, six RBI and a 4:7 BB:K through seven games in June, which has boosted his OPS for the season to .848.
