  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Benched in second straight

Haggerty is out of the lineup for the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Orioles.

Seattle will have top catcher Luis Torrens serve as its designated hitter for a second straight game, creating a domino effect that leaves no room in the lineup for Haggerty. After making three consecutive starts in the outfield last week, Haggerty is now on the bench for the second game in a row. His hold on a regular role looks to have loosened following his 1-for-16 start to the season, and Haggerty's playing time will likely take a significant hit once Kyle Lewis (knee) is ready to return from the injured list.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Angels' Jack Mayfield: Joins big-league roster

Mayfield was called up by the Angels on Monday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Mayfield gets the call with the Angels needing an extra infielder following Anthony Rendon's move to the 10-day injured list with a strained groin. He'll provide the team with some defensive versatility but is unlikely to offer much at the plate, as he's hit .170/.198/.283 in 112 career plate appearances at the MLB level.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Indians' Andres Gimenez: Not in lineup

Gimenez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Gimenez hits the bench against lefty Carlos Rodon, with Amed Rosario getting the start at shortstop. So far this season, Gimenez has started against all three righties that Cleveland has faced while starting against three out of six southpaws. That suggests he'll remain in something between a platoon and a true everyday role going forward.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

    Twins' Jorge Polanco: Receives rest

Polanco is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Minnesota is opening its four-game series against Boston with a day game, so Polanco will sit out in what appears to be a pre-planned rest day. Luis Arraez will fill in at the keystone for Polanco, who started in each of the Twins' first nine games. The 27-year-old has endured a brutal start to the campaign, going 5-for-40 with zero home runs, a stolen base, five runs and three RBI.

  • Blue Jays' Santiago Espinal: Moves back to alt site

The Blue Jays optioned Espinal to their alternate training site Monday.

He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to outfielder Lourdes Gurriel (illness), who was activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Espinal was with the big club for two days and made an impact in his lone start Saturday against the Angels, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Makes third straight start

Mendick started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 with two walks in Sunday's extra-inning loss to Kansas City.

Mendick has started all three games at shortstop since being called up after Tim Anderson (hamstring) was placed on the injured list. He's reached base in all three contests, rapping out four hits and four walks. It was thought that Leury Garcia would get most of the shortstop at-bats with Anderson on the shelf, but he's been dealing with a leg injury and returned to play the outfield Sunday.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Notches stolen base

Lopez went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Lopez drew a walk and stole second in the eighth inning. He came around to score on an Andrew Benintendi single to put the Royals ahead 2-1. Lopez has yet to show any power -- all seven of his hits this year are singles -- but he's produced a stolen base, two RBI and three runs scored through seven games. He'll continue to log playing time at shortstop until Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) returns.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: On base three times Sunday

Merrifield went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Merrifield knocked in Kyle Isbel with a single in the fifth inning. In the 10th, Merrifield was intentionally walked, then moved to second on an error and executed a double-steal with Andrew Benintendi. Sunday was the first time Merrifield attempted a steal this season -- he went 1-for-2 on the basepaths in this game. The second baseman has added a slash line of .393/.424/.750 with three homers, 10 RBI and five runs scored across 33 plate appearances. As long as he's in a leadoff role, the 32-year-old could provide solid value in all five roto categories.

  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Resting after three straight starts

Haggerty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Haggerty will take a seat after starting four of the Mariners' last five games in the outfield, going 1-for-15 at the dish. Though he's been the primary beneficiary of extra work since Jake Fraley (hamstring) was placed on the injured list, Haggerty may need to show some signs of life offensively to continue earning regular playing time.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Dropped from active roster

The Red Sox optioned Chavis to their taxi squad Sunday.

Chavis' stay on the 26-man roster lasted just one day after J.D. Martinez (illness) -- who was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday -- cleared MLB's health and safety protocols ahead of Sunday's series finale in Baltimore. Since Chavis will still be part of Boston's five-man taxi squad, he could be in store for a call-up during the team's ongoing road trip if the Red Sox require another position player at any point.
