    Indians' Owen Miller: Placed on bereavement list

    Miller was placed on the bereavement list Friday.

    The timing of the transaction ends Miller's season, as there are just three days remaining on the schedule. Miller will close his rookie campaign having hit .204/.243/.309 across 60 games. James Karinchak was called up to take his place on the roster.

    Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Not starting Friday

    Jones will be on the bench Friday against Toronto, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

    Jones has now started every other game at second base for the last nine games. Pat Valaika starts at the keystone Friday, but Jones should return Saturday if the pattern continues.

    Astros' Jose Altuve: Not in Friday's lineup

    Altuve will sit Friday against Oakland, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    The Astros elected to rest several regulars after clinching the division title Thursday. Marwin Gonzalez starts at second base in Altuve's place.

    Hernandez will sit Friday against Cleveland.

    Hernandez's off days typically comes against lefties, but he'll sit here against righty Eli Morgan. Andy Ibanez starts at third base.

    Rays' Brandon Lowe: Resting Friday

    Lowe will sit Friday against the Yankees, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

    Lowe sits with lefty Nestor Cortes on the mound for New York, though the Rays have let him face most southpaws this season, so this could just be a routine off day. Joey Wendle, another left-handed hitter, will start at second base.

    Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Tallies ninth homer

    Torres went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Blue Jays.

    Torres was one of three Yankees to homer in the sixth inning. He now has nine home runs on the season, three of which have come in last 17 starts. In that same span, he's also collected eight RBI and scored 11 runs. This hot stretch has bumped Torres' line to .261/.333/.368 across 504 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Leadoff homer

    Hernandez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Orioles.

    Hernandez took Alexander Wells yard on the first pitch of the game to record his 19th home run of the season. He now has at least one hit in eight of his last 10 starts, four of which have been multi-hit efforts. In that same span, Hernandez has also recorded two home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored. On the campaign, he's maintained a .250/.335/.448 slash line across 570 plate appearances.

    Rays' Brandon Lowe: Goes deep again

    Lowe went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the Astros.

    Lowe accounted for all of Tampa Bay's offense when he took Houston starter Lance McCullers deep in the sixth inning to pull the Rays within a run. Lowe has gone deep in back-to-back games to up his team-leading season total to 36. He put together a .301/.352/.554 line during the month of September.

    Indians' Andres Gimenez: Sitting again Thursday

    Gimenez is not in Thursday's lineup against the Royals.

    The second baseman is on the bench for the second consecutive game. Over his last 10 contests, he has registered at least one hit in eight games while batting .379 with three home runs and seven RBI. Owen Miller starts at second base Thursday and will bat eighth.

    Indians' Amed Rosario: Sitting Thursday

    Rosario is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Royals.

    The shortstop will take a seat after starting the team's last six contests since returning from the COVID-19 list Sept. 24. In those contests, he got multiple hits three times and drove in four runs. Yu Chang gets the start at shortstop and is batting fifth Thursday.
