  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Promotion official

The White Sox officially selected Gonzalez's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

With top second baseman Cesar Hernandez having endured a brutal September and with Tim Anderson (hamstring) landing on the injured list Wednesday, Gonzalez could be in the mix for playing time in the middle infield following his first big-league call-up. Leury Garcia and Danny Mendick loom as his primary threats for reps, but Gonzalez's status as one of the organization's top prospects behooves the White Sox to at least give him a look as a part-time player while Anderson is on the shelf. After delivering modest production in his first two seasons of professional ball, Gonzalez turned heads between stops at Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham this season. In 378 plate appearances, the 24-year-old slashed a collective .275/.357/.525 with 23 home runs and 22 steals in 28 attempts.

  • Rangers' Yonny Hernandez: Not starting Wednesday

Hernandez isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.

Hernandez drew starts in each of the last four games and went 4-for-14 with a double, two runs, an RBI, a stolen base and two walks. He'll get a day off since Charlie Culberson is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh.

    White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Receiving big-league call-up

The White Sox will select Gonzalez's contract from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

After Chicago dealt away the injured Nick Madrigal (hamstring) to the Cubs ahead of the trade deadline, Gonzalez became the potential heir apparent at second base heading into 2022, considering incumbent starter Cesar Hernandez isn't a lock to have his $6 million team option picked up. The White Sox's decision to bring Gonzalez aboard as a September call-up could even threaten Hernandez's perch atop the depth chart heading into the postseason, as the veteran finished August with a .190/.287/.280 slash line and slid down the batting order as a result. Gonzalez, meanwhile, has slugged 23 home runs and has stolen 22 bases while batting .275 between stops at Triple-A and Double-A Birmingham this season. He'll likely serve as a utility player initially, but he could get a longer look at the keystone if Hernandez continues to languish.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

Indians' Amed Rosario: Two homers in win

Rosario went 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

The 25-year-old powered the offense in this one, cracking an inside-the-park home run in the first inning, a two-RBI single in the fifth inning and a two-run blast in the seventh inning. Rosario batted .372 in the month of August with four homers and 20 RBI. He has had a strong first season with Cleveland, batting .290 with 10 long balls and 12 steals in 120 games.

  • Kean Wong 2B | SEA

Angels' Kean Wong: Returns to Triple-A

Wong was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Wong was promoted Monday and will return to the minors without appearing in a game. He's appeared in 20 major-league games this season and is hitting .171/.190/.268 in 45 plate appearances.

  • Jonathan Arauz 3B | LAD

Red Sox's Jonathan Arauz: Back in action Tuesday

Arauz (undisclosed) is starting at second base and batting ninth Tuesday against the Rays, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Arauz sat out Monday's contest after leaving with an apparent injury Sunday, but he's ready to play after one day out of the lineup. The 23-year-old should continue to see plenty of action at the keystone while Enrique Hernandez (illness) and Christian Arroyo (illness) remain on the COVID-19 IL.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Indians' Andres Gimenez: On bench Tuesday

Gimenez is not starting Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Gimenez has hit .259 with a pair of doubles in his last 10 games. Owen Miller will play second base and bat seventh Tuesday.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Back with big-league club

The White Sox recalled Mendick from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

The infielder had been optioned to the minors Thursday, but he now rejoins the White Sox to fill the roster spot of Lance Lynn (knee). Mendick figures to get sparse playing time as a backup option across Chicago's infield.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Sitting against southpaw

Kemp is not starting Tuesday against Detroit.

Kemp played hero in Sunday's win over the Yankees, belting a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning. He holds a hot bat, logging two hits in each of his last three games, but he will begin the series opener on the bench with lefty Tarik Skubal slated to start for the Tigers. Mark Canha remains in left field as Josh Harrison mans second base Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: On bench against lefty

Castro is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Athletics.

The lefty-hitting Castro will take a seat with southpaw Cole Irvin on the hill for Oakland. Castro's platoon mate, Zack Short, will pick up the start at shortstop, but the former should continue to pick up the bulk of the work at the position until Niko Goodrum (groin) returns from the injured list.
