  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

Royals' Nicky Lopez: Out of lineup

Lopez will sit Friday against the Tigers.

Lopez owns a poor .571 OPS since the start of August, though that's barely a downgrade from the .584 OPS he posted through the end of July. He continues to start regularly thanks to his glove, but it will be Bobby Witt who slides to shortstop Friday, with Hunter Dozier entering the lineup at third base.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Steps out of lineup

Castro is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus Kansas City.

Castro started Detroit's last 10 games and will head to the bench after he posted a .603 OPS during that stretch. Spencer Torkelson will start at first base and bat seventh Friday.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Perfect at plate Thursday

Massey went 3-for-3 with a double and a walk in Thursday's 7-1 loss to the White Sox.

Massey went 5-for-10 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in this week's three-game series versus Chicago. The second baseman has handled a near-everyday role lately, though he slumped in the latter half of August. Overall, he's posted a .281/.350/.404 slash line with a home run, two stolen bases, nine RBI and six runs scored through his first 101 big-league plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Drives in three

Arroyo started at second base and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and three RBI in Thursday's 9-8 win over the Rangers.

Arroyo picked up the start in place of a resting Trevor Story, and his bat remained scorching hot. He owns a .346/.370/.442 line over the last 12 games while driving in nine during that span. Arroyo shifted to first base for the final inning after Enrique Hernandez pinch hit for starting first baseman Franchy Cordero. With news that Eric Hosmer had a planned rehab assignment scrapped amid lingering back soreness, first base remains the likeliest path to playing time for Arroyo.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Guardians' Ernie Clement: Recalled by Cleveland

Clement was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Clement was demoted to Columbus in early August and will return to Cleveland with big-league rosters expanding to 28 players. The 26-year-old has a .492 OPS in 158 plate appearances in the bigs this season and should fill a utility role while up in the majors.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Not starting Thursday

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Hernandez has an .855 OPS with a home run, two RBI and three runs over his past five contests and will take a seat in the series opener versus Texas. Rob Refsnyder will man center field and bat eighth Thursday.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Mariners' Adam Frazier: Gets rest day

Frazier is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Frazier will take a seat after going 4-for-18 with a pair of extra-base hits and a walk while starting each of the past six games in the middle infield. The 30-year-old's last two appearances came at shortstop, but Frazier should settle back in at his natural spot at second base moving forward with J.P. Crawford (pectoral) returning to the lineup Thursday following a three-game absence.

  • David Hensley 1B | DET

Astros' David Hensley: Reaches base four times

Hensley went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

Hensley was promoted from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday with Aledmys Diaz (groin) and Yordan Alvarez (hand) both banged up in recent days. Hensley has started three of Houston's last four games, collecting four hits in 13 at-bats. While at Sugar Land, Hensley maintained a .298/.420/.478 line in 464 plate appearances -- good for a 130 wRC+.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Another productive game

Altuve went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Rangers.

Altuve was a primary contributor to Houston's offense Wednesday, with his biggest knock of the day being a two-RBI double in the second inning. He has seven multi-hit performances in his last 11 starts, during which he's hit .364 with two homers, six RBI and 10 runs scored. For the season, Altuve owns a .286/.374/.514 line -- good for his highest OPS since 2019.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Joins 20-20 club

Semien went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Houston.

Semien's steal was his 20th and placed him in the 20-20 club (20 home runs, 20 steals) for the first time of his career. He joins outfielder Adolis Garcia as the second Rangers this year to achieve that feat. Semien topped his previous career high in steals (15 in 2021) earlier this season, which is due in part to the Rangers' philosophy of aggressiveness on the base paths, a benefit he talked about with Kennedi Landry of MLB.com in June.
