Marlins manager Skip Schumaker indicated Wednesday that Gurriel will primarily be used as a bat off the bench, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Schumaker did say that he feels comfortable deploying Gurriel against both righties and lefties but also went on to confirm that Garrett Cooper will remain the team's primary first baseman. There is very little fantasy appeal in the 2023 outlook of a 38-year-old reserve player who slashed just .242/.288/.360 across 584 regular-season plate appearances in 2022.

The Rangers optioned Harris to Double-A Frisco on Wednesday.

Texas initially planned to have Harris report to Triple-A Round Rock after he was optioned out of big-league camp earlier this month, but he'll end up making a return trip to Frisco, where he spent the entire 2022 campaign. The 23-year-old outfielder, who was added to the 40-man roster over the winter, likely won't have to wait long to get his first taste of Triple-A. He was productive over his 86 games with Frisco a season ago, slashing .259/.346/.485 with 18 home runs and 19 stolen bases in 387 plate appearances.

Beaty was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Royals camp.

Beaty lost out in his pursuit of a bench spot in Kansas City despite an impressive showing at the plate in the Cactus League. He went just 4-for-43 (.093) in 20 major-league games with the Padres in 2022.

Hoskins is scheduled to undergo left ACL reconstruction surgery Thursday.

The procedure will be performed by Dr. Steve Singleton in Fort Worth, Texas. Hoskins blew out his left knee on a non-contact play in the field last Thursday during one of the Phillies' final Grapefruit League games. He can be ruled out for the entire 2023 season, and he is scheduled to become a free agent in November. It's a brutal all-around turn of events for the 30-year-old first baseman and the reigning NL champions.

Hiura cleared waivers and was outrighted Tuesday to Triple-A Nashville, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Hiura was designated for assignment Monday, a few days after the Brewers informed him that he wouldn't be included on the Opening Day roster. It's rather surprising that he didn't draw waiver-wire interest from other teams as a 26-year-old former top prospect, but that's how far his star has fallen. Hiura also couldn't elect free agency because this was his first career outright assignment. He'll remain part of the Brewers organization for now at a 2023 salary of $2.2 million.

Toglia was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old seemed to have a good chance of making the Opening Day roster in Colorado before the Rockies signed Jurickson Profar last week. Toglia posted impressive numbers in the upper minors last season before struggling badly with strikeouts upon his arrival to the majors. He struck out 24 times in 73 at-bats this spring in the Cactus League, though he did also produce a shiny .900 OPS. Toglia is likely to get another extended look in the early part of the 2023 regular season.

Solano started at DH and went 1-for-4 with a home run in Monday's spring training win over Pittsburgh. He's hitting .158 with a .509 OPS this spring.

Despite his underwhelming hitting stats this spring, Solano is set to make the roster as a utility infielder. He could get some extra playing time in April with both Jorge Polanco and Alex Kirilloff set to begin the season on the injured list. However, he's likely the secondary option off the bench as both Kyle Farmer and Nick Gordon can move around the infield as well. Solano did play some first base this spring and could get a few starts there as well.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Noda has been told he's made the Opening Day roster, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Noda was a Rule 5 draft selection by the Athletics from the Dodgers, and the Athletics have seen enough to carry him on their roster to begin the year. While he's hit just .167, Noda has drawn 11 walks over his 64 plate appearances, and four of his eight hits have gone for extra bases. Noda has potential to be an intriguing long-term play, but it's hard to see a path to relevancy in the 2023 season.

The Orioles reassigned Lester to minor-league camp Monday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Though he ultimately fell short in his bid for a reserve role on the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Lester stuck around in big-league camp longer than many anticipated heading into spring training. The 28-year-old Lester, who was able to make his MLB debut late in the 2022 season with Detroit after slugging 29 home runs for Triple-A Toledo, slashed .291/.339/.455 with five extra-base hits over his 23 Grapefruit League games this spring. Lester will likely settle into a near-everyday role at Triple-A Norfolk, seeing action at both corner-infield and corner-outfield spots.

The Orioles reassigned O'Hearn to minor-league camp Monday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

O'Hearn hit well this spring when healthy, but he missed time with a knee injury and wasn't able to convince the O's he was worthy of a roster spot. He'll represent veteran depth at Norfolk.
