His .265/.364/.739 line indicates a competent hitter, although it remains to be seen if the 25-year-old will develop the kind of power associated with a corner infielder at the major-league level.

Manager Gabe Kapler said it's "reasonable" to expect Flores (hamstring) to be activated from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Alonso is eligible to return from the injured list Saturday, and the team remains hopeful that he's on track for a brief absence. While the Mets haven't specified whether Alonso will be activated Saturday, his participation in drills without a brace on his hand is certainly encouraging.

Smith isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Smith went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run in Tuesday's win over the Rockies. Brandon Drury will start in left field and bat sixth.
