  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: On bench Saturday

Diaz isn't starting Saturday's game against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz led off in Friday's Opening Day matchup and went 1-for-4 with a run. However, Taylor Walls will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against right-hander Jordan Lyles on Saturday.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Not starting

Vaughn isn't starting Saturday's game against Detroit.

Vaughn homered in Friday's Opening Day loss, but he'll get a breather Saturday. Gavin Sheets will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Three hits in Friday's win

Olson went 3-for-5 with a double in Friday's 7-6 win over the Reds.

He wasn't able to turn the knocks into production despite a good night overall for the Atlanta offense, but the runs and RBI will come for Olson. The 28-year-old reached triple digits in each category last season in a much less potent Oakland attack, and Olson has reached base five times in his first two games with his new club.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Slugs first homer of year

Bell went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Mets.

He tied the game up at 3-3 in the fourth inning by turning around a Max Scherzer fastball and sending it 443 feet into the second deck in right-center, but it was the last gasp of offense for the Nationals on the night. It was Bell's first homer and first RBI of the season as he looks to build on last year's solid numbers, which included 27 homers and 88 RBI.

  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Reds' Donovan Solano: Pushing to return

Solano (hamstring) took a few swings Friday during Mike Minor's simulated game, not content to just track pitches, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I feel better every single day," Solano said. "I try to push myself every single day to get better and better. I don't know how much more time I need, but I think we're moving at a good pace."

Solano elaborated that his leg isn't yet 100 percent when swinging, and that he feels it when "I touch the ground and turn." He's also not yet running, so a rehab assignment isn't yet in the offing.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Blasts go-ahead homer

Vaughn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Vaughn gave the White Sox the lead with his solo homer in the top of the ninth inning Friday, but the team was unable to retain the lead to close out the game. The 24-year-old figures to see plenty of playing time as the White Sox's designated hitter in 2022 after he slashed .235/.309/.396 with 15 homers, 56 runs and 48 RBI in 127 appearances last year.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Homers in first inning

Rizzo went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Friday's 6-5 win over the Red Sox.

The Red Sox scored three runs in the top of the first inning Friday, but Rizzo helped bring the score closer by homering in his first plate appearance of the 2022 campaign. He hit .249 with eight homers, 32 runs, 21 RBI and two steals across 49 appearances with the Yankees last year and will attempt to build upon his results in his age-32 season.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Placed on paternity list

Gurriel was placed on the paternity list Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in Thursday's Opening Day win over the Angels, but he'll be away from the team for 1-3 days following the birth of his child. Joe Perez was called up by the Astros ahead of Friday's game against the Angels, while Aledmys Diaz should see increased playing time at first base while Gurriel is unavailable.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Good to go

Alonso (mouth) will bat cleanup and play first base Friday against the Nationals.

Alonso left Thursday's season opener after getting hit by a pitch in the ninth inning. The pitch ricocheted off his shoulder into his face, but he wound up suffering nothing worse than a swollen and cut lip. He'll return Friday without missing any at-bats.

  • Evan White 1B | LAA

Mariners' Evan White: On injured list as expected

White (groin) hit the 10-day injured list Friday.

White underwent surgery for a sports hernia in late March. His recovery timeline remains unclear. The fact that he hit the 10-day injured list rather than the 60-day could indicate that the Mariners expect him healthy before early June, though the team could of course shift him to the 60-day injured list whenever they need to open a 40-man roster spot.
