Athletics' Nick Kurtz: May not debut until Wednesday

The Athletics could elect to wait until Wednesday to officially promote Kurtz from Triple-A Las Vegas with the team scheduled to face left-handed starter Patrick Corbin in Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Reports surfaced earlier Monday indicating that Kurtz was set to join the big club, but the 22-year-old looks like he'll end up waiting a couple more days before making his MLB debut. Kurtz earned his spot on the big-league roster after slashing .321/.385/.655 with seven home runs over 96 plate appearances with Las Vegas to begin the season.

  • Astros' Christian Walker: Getting breather Monday

Walker is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

Walker hit his second home run of the season this past weekend against the Padres, but he's just 3-for-26 across his last eight contests and is slashing only .156/.253/.260 on the season. Zach Dezenzo is at first base and hitting ninth for the Astros.

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Slated for promotion to majors

The Athletics are set to promote Kurtz from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, Kurtz has slashed a robust .321/.385/.655 with seven home runs with Las Vegas this season and will make his major-league debut after racing through the minors. Kurtz is likely to split time between designated hitter and first base with Tyler Soderstrom, resulting in Brent Rooker seeing more starts in left field.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Exits starting nine

Vaughn is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in Boston.

It's a day off for Vaughn, who had started every game since April 4. Nick Maton is covering first base and batting leadoff for the White Sox, while Andrew Benintendi is getting at start at designated hitter.

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Homers in win

Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Red Sox.

Vaughn extended the team's lead to 7-4 with a 405-foot blast off Liam Hendriks in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old snapped a modest five-game hit streak Saturday but rebounded with his first multi-hit effort of the season. Overall, he's slashing an uninspiring .152/.193/.291 with three home runs, 10 RBI and five runs scored across 83 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Blasts off again Saturday

Torkelson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Royals.

Following a disappointing 2024 campaign, Torkelson has gotten off to a great start in 2025, and his long ball Saturday proved to be the game winner. The 25-year-old has a robust 1.049 OPS, seven home runs and 21 RBI through 21 games. The homer and RBI totals lead the team and rank among the top five in the majors as well.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Wins it in overtime

Casas went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Saturday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Casas delivered the game-winning run in the 10th inning with a bases-loaded single. While it's way too early to claim the walk-off hit has ended Casas' early-season swoon -- he entered Saturday hitting .172 with a .508 OPS -- it was a big hit for the first baseman, who was batting .125 (2-for-16) with runners in scoring position prior to Saturday's knock.

  • Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Walks off Yankees

Aranda went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Yankees.

Aranda capped off a comeback for the Rays with a walk-off home run in the 10th inning. He has hit well overall to begin the season and flashed a lot of power, tallying eight doubles and four home runs across 69 plate appearances, although most of that damage has come in the Rays' very hitter-friendly temporary home at George Steinbrenner Field. Aranda will likely remain in a strong-side platoon, but he did draw the start Friday with a lefty on the mound.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

    Rangers' Jake Burger: Sitting Saturday

Burger is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Burger's six-game hitting streak was put to an end Friday, as he struck out in all three of his at-bats. He'll get a chance to regroup Saturday while Josh Smith starts at first, opening up left field for Dustin Harris.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Resting Saturday

Mountcastle isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Cincinnati.

Mountcastle will get a day to rest Saturday after going 4-for-24 with two RBI and five runs scored across his stretch of seven consecutive starts. Ryan O'Hearn will take his place at first base, moving Jordan Westburg into the DH spot while Ramon Urias starts at third.
