  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Sitting after 12 straight starts

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Milwaukee will go with Cooper Pratt and David Hamilton as its starters on the left side of the infield after Ortiz had been included in the lineup at either shortstop or third base in each of the previous 12 games. Ortiz produced a sizzling .293/.367/.488 slash line with two home runs, one steal, nine RBI and nine runs during that stretch, and the Brewers should continue to find ways to keep him in the starting nine while he's wielding a hot bat. Expect Ortiz to remain a regular in the lineup against left-handed pitching, while manager Pat Murphy will likely lean on a three-man rotation of Ortiz, Pratt and Hamilton for two spots in the lineup versus righties.

  • Jordan Lawlar CF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Smacks game-winning homer

Lawlar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Cubs.

The 24-year-old broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning when he drove a Matthew Boyd changeup the other way for his third long ball of the season. Lawlar left Tuesday's contest early after being hit in the head by a pitch, but he cleared the concussion protocol and seems none the worse for wear. In eight games since recovering from a hamstring strain and coming off the IL on Aug. 17, Lawlar has gone 6-for-24 (.250) with two homers, four runs and four RBI, but a 0:9 BB:K.

  • Jack Leiter SP | TEX

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Set for third rehab appearance

Leiter (ankle) will make the third appearance of his rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock.

Through his first two rehab starts -- one with Round Rock, one with Double-A Frisco -- Leiter has posted an 8:3 K:BB over 5.2 innings while yielding five runs (four earned) and four hits. He tossed 59 pitches in his most recent outing with Frisco and will look to build on that workload Wednesday before potentially making his return from the 60-day injured list. Leiter has been on the shelf since June 21 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery two days later to address a loose body near his right ankle region.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Heading to bench Wednesday

Chourio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Chourio appears to be receiving a routine day off after he had started in each of Milwaukee's last 38 games. Sal Frelick will pick up a start in left field in place of Chourio, who is batting .287 with four home runs, three steals, 12 runs and eight RBI through Milwaukee's first 23 contests of August.

  • Juan Morillo RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Secures second save

Morillo worked a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Cubs. He didn't strike out a batter.

Kevin Ginkel had pitched the prior two days and Brandyn Garcia handled the eighth inning, so Morillo was summoned in the ninth and got the job done on an efficient eight pitches (seven strikes). The closer situation for Arizona remains murky, with all three of those pitchers having now recorded saves in August while Justin Martinez is also likely to work into the mix after making his 2026 debut last week. Morillo's making a strong case for regular high-leverage work, however -- his other save this season came back in April, but he hasn't been tagged for a run since July 17, reeling off 14 straight scoreless appearances with a 0.79 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 14 innings while picking up one win and seven holds.

  • Luis Vazquez 3B | BAL

Orioles' Luis Vazquez: Contract selected by Baltimore

The Orioles selected Vazquez's contract from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

The move corresponds with the Orioles placing Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list. Vazquez has spent the entire 2026 season in the minors and most of the year at Triple-A, where he is slashing .225/.272/.360 with seven steals, six home runs and 18 RBI over 194 plate appearances. He has the versatility to play multiple infield positions, with most of his reps this season coming at shortstop.

  • Tyler O'Neill RF | BAL

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Placed on 10-day IL

The Orioles placed O'Neill on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sunday, due to right shoulder inflammation.

As expected, O'Neill will be shelved for an extended period of time due to a right shoulder injury that he sustained while making a diving catch against the Rays on Saturday. Pete Alonso could see additional reps as the designated hitter for as long as O'Neill is sidelined. A minimum stint on the IL would have O'Neill back with the big club Sept. 2, though a clearer return timeline will be established once he recovers enough to participate in baseball activities.

  • Charles McAdoo 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Charles McAdoo: Playing time trending back down

McAdoo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

After being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 10, McAdoo started in 11 of the Blue Jays' ensuing 13 games, slashing .308/.364/.436 with one home run, one stolen base, seven RBI and four runs during that stretch. Despite acquitting himself well at the plate, McAdoo finds himself on the bench Wednesday for a second straight game. McAdoo could be in line for a more limited role moving forward following Vladimir Guerrero's recent return from a concussion.

  • Myles Straw LF | TOR

Blue Jays' Myles Straw: Retreating to bench Wednesday

Straw is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Straw had started in each of the previous five games, but he'll likely have to settle for a reserve role against most right-handed pitchers while George Springer, Jesus Sanchez, Brett Bateman and Nathan Lukes are available to fill out the outfield and designated-hitter spots. The 31-year-old Straw has provided value with his speed and defense but is slashing just .217/.272/.332 over 260 plate appearances on the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Dominates Cubs for fourth straight W

Rodriguez (14-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over the Cubs, scattering two hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine.

The nine Ks tied Rodriguez's season high, a mark he set Aug. 9, when he began his current four-start win streak. The veteran lefty's 14 wins on the season have him tied for second in the NL behind Cristopher Sanchez's 16 for the Phillies, and since the All-Star break Rodriguez has gone 6-1 in eight outings with a 3.00 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB over 48 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against Philadelphia.
