McDonald is scheduled to undergo UCL reconstruction surgery in early August, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

McDonald was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right elbow Friday, and after seeking out a second opinion, he will opt to go under the knife to address the issue. The procedure will end his season early and likely rule him out for most, if not all, of 2027 as well. He'll close the book on 2026 after logging a 5.12 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 70.1 innings across 14 starts.

Bader had a scooter accident this past weekend and further injured his left foot, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Bader has been sidelined since late May while nursing plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The outfielder met with a foot and ankle specialist in Indianapolis on Monday, and he will now require an MRI, which he will undergo Tuesday. Bader can be considered without a timetable to return for the time being.

Wesneski (elbow) will return from the injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

After spending the first several months of the season on the injured list while finishing up his recovery from May 2025 Tommy John surgery, Wesneski will officially make his season debut Wednesday and claim the spot in Houston's rotation vacated by Spencer Arrighetti (foot). Wesneski made five starts in the minor leagues after getting the green light to begin a rehab assignment June 30, during which he posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 20 innings split between rookie ball, Double-A and Triple-A. He built up to 80 pitches during his last outing at Triple-A Sugar Land, so the Astros may not place a limit on his pitch count during his start Wednesday.

Bassitt (back) tossed 3.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and a walk while striking out three batters in Tuesday's rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Bassitt surrendered a solo home run to Franklin Arias (No. 1 prospect for Red Sox) on the first pitch of the game, but he quickly settled in, retiring 10 of the next 11 batters. The right-hander registered 28 strikes over his 46 total pitches, and he'll likely build up past 60-plus pitches in his next outing with Norfolk. Bassitt has been on the injured list since June 8 while recovering from lower-back discomfort, which ultimately required surgery. He's eligible to be activated from the 60-day IL on Aug. 4, though he'll likely return to the major-league roster in mid-to-late August.

Glasnow (back) will face live hitters again Wednesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Glasnow will take on live batters for the second time in a week after having done so already Friday. The right-hander has been on the shelf since May 8 due to lower back spasms, but he finally appears to be moving closer to a return. If all goes well Wednesday, Glasnow would be on track to begin a minor-league rehab assignment thereafter. Prior to landing on the injured list, the 32-year-old had compiled a 2.72 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with 49 punchouts over 39.2 innings in seven starts.

Hernandez (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Hernandez will return to the major-league roster after spending two months on the injured list with a left oblique strain. The 34-year-old went 8-for-24 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored over seven contests with Triple-A Oklahoma City during his minor-league rehab assignment. Hernandez has the ability to play any position on the field outside of catcher, and although he won't be the regular starter at any spot, he will likely find himself in the lineup pretty regularly against left-handed pitchers.

The Dodgers optioned Freeland to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Freeland has made just three plate appearances since the All-Star break, and he'll now end up as the odd man out of a roster spot following Enrique Hernandez's (oblique) return from the IL. Freeland has slashed just .231/.309/.313 across 223 plate appearances with the big club this season but would be a likely candidate to return to Los Angeles if the Dodgers' infield depth is tested again down the stretch.

The Giants selected Basabe's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Basabe made his most recent appearances in the major leagues during 2023 for the Rays, when he slashed .218/.277/.310 across 94 plate appearances in 31 games. For Triple-A Sacramento in 2026, the 25-year-old has slashed .268/.344/.388 through 311 plate appearances. His call-up Tuesday comes as a corresponding move to the Giants placing Casey Schmitt (knee) on the 10-day injured list. Basabe will be available to serve as a utility man.

Smith (neck) is pain-free after resuming baseball activities, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Smith has been sidelined for over a month while tending to a lingering neck issue, but he has now taken a significant step towards returning to action. The catcher will increase the intensity of his workouts ahead of a potential minor-league rehab assignment in the near future. With the trade deadline approaching fast, a healthy Smith would likely erase the need for the Dodgers to aggressively pursue a backstop.

MRI and CT scan results confirmed Tuesday that the fracture in Bauers' right big toe is an old injury, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

X-rays picked up a fracture in Bauers' toe following his exit from Monday's contest, but it turned out to be an old injury that he had been playing through and aggravated when he fouled a ball off his foot. He said Tuesday that he doesn't expect to spend time on the injured list, and his availability going forward will come down to pain management. The Brewers will keep him on the bench to begin Tuesday's contest, giving Andrew Vaughn the start at first base and deploying Luis Lara in right field, but Bauers could be available off the bench.
