  • Burch Smith RP | DET

Tigers' Burch Smith: Heads to 60-day IL

The Tigers transferred Smith (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Ben Malgeri, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo. Smith is in the midst of a throwing progression as he works his way back from right shoulder inflammation, but his move to the 60-day IL indicates that the Tigers weren't counting on him being ready to contribute out of the bullpen before the All-Star break. He'll be eligible for activation beginning July 21.

  • Joey Loperfido LF | HOU

Astros' Joey Loperfido: Exiting starting nine

Loperfido is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Blue Jays.

The left-handed-hitting Loperfido had started each of the last four games against righties, but he will take a seat Tuesday as Toronto sends righty Shane Bieber to the bump. Taylor Trammell will play left field.

  • Jake Meyers CF | HOU

Astros' Jake Meyers: Out of lineup Tuesday

Meyers is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game in Toronto.

Meyers is slashing only .188/.233/.294 in 31 games since coming off the injured list in mid-May, and he's now started only four of the past eight contests. Brice Matthews will patrol center field for the Astros on Tuesday.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | KC

Royals' Josh Rojas: Back in majors

The Royals recalled Rojas from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old was up with the Royals for a few days in early June and will now get another chance in the majors since Maikel Garcia (hand) was placed on the injured list. Nick Loftin has been operating as Kansas City's primary third baseman with Garcia banged up, while Rojas is likely to fill a utility role while up in the majors.

  • Trei Cruz RF | DET

Tigers' Trei Cruz: Sent to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Cruz to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Cruz was called up by Detroit on Friday and will return to the minors after going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in his first two MLB games. Ben Malgeri was promoted Tuesday to round out the Tigers' bench.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Out with hand injury

The Royals placed Garcia on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a left hand muscle strain.

The 26-year-old returned to the lineup the past two days after missing three games due to left hand soreness, but he apparently aggravated the injury and will now require a stint on the injured list. Garcia will be eligible to be reinstated in early July, though it's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined. Nick Loftin has started the past five games at the hot corner -- Garcia filled in for Bobby Witt (knee) at shortstop Sunday and Monday -- and should continue to operate as Kansas City's primary third baseman while Garcia is on the shelf.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Back with Brewers on MiLB deal

The Brewers signed Strzelecki to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Strzelecki opted out of his minor-league deal with the Yankees last week after holding a 4.81 ERA and 29:5 K:BB over 24.1 frames at the Triple-A level this season. The 31-year-old came up through the Brewers' minor-league system and first reached the majors with them in 2022, so it's a homecoming of sorts for Strzelecki.

  • Austin Voth RP | MIN

Twins' Austin Voth: Added to roster

The Twins selected Voth's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday.

Voth was just inked to a minor-league contract earlier this month and is now with the big club after turning in a 5.40 ERA and 17:6 K:BB over 13.1 innings with St. Paul. He will provide length in the Minnesota bullpen and is a good bet to pitch Tuesday versus the Dodgers at some point after starter Kendry Rojas, who is not fully stretched out.

  • Ben Malgeri RF | DET

Tigers' Ben Malgeri: Joins big-league roster

The Tigers selected Malgeri's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old has received his first promotion to the majors after posting a .296/.401/.496 slash line through 65 games with Toledo this season. Malgeri should serve as a reserve outfielder for Detroit and could see some starts against left-handed pitching.

  • Cody Laweryson RP | MIN

Twins' Cody Laweryson: Optioned back to minors

The Twins optioned Laweryson to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday.

Laweryson has authored a 5.06 ERA and 18:7 K:BB over 16 innings out of the Minnesota bullpen this season. The 28-year-old's roster spot is being taken by Austin Voth, who can provide more length.
