  • Reds' Ivan Johnson: Swipes two bags in Tuesday's start

Johnson went 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Guardians. Getting the start at second base and batting seventh in the nightcap, Johnson swiped both his bags after an eighth-inning walk as he tried to produce an insurance run in a 2-0 victory. It was only Johnson's second big-league start since making his debut for the Reds on June 30, and the hit and stolen bases were the first of his career. Edwin Arroyo has been scuffling of late, but any chance for Johnson to see more opportunities at the keystone will likely disappear once Matt McLain (calf) returns from the IL.

  • Reds' Ivan Johnson: Recalled from Louisville

The Reds recalled Johnson from Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Johnson went 0-for-5 at the dish during a previous stint in the majors. The 27-year-old utility player is grabbing the roster spot vacated by the injured Spencer Steer (wrist) and is likely to operate in a reserve role.

  • Reds' Ivan Johnson: Demoted to Louisville

The Reds optioned Johnson to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. He's clearing out to make space on the roster for the return of Dane Myers (shoulder) from the injured list. Johnson is still looking for his first major-league hit, having gone 0-for-5 at the plate after being promoted in late June.

  • Reds' Ivan Johnson: Contract selected

The Reds selected Johnson's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Johnson has put up a healthy .290/.388/.489 batting line with nine home runs, 11 stolen bases and a 26:49 BB:K over 55 games this season with Louisville. The 27-year-old has played mostly at second base and in left field in 2026, but he has experience at every position other than first base, catcher and pitcher. Johnson will be making his major-league debut if he gets into a game.
