  • Reds' Jose Franco: Sent back down

The Reds optioned Franco to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. Franco gave up three earned runs over two innings during the first half of Saturday's doubleheader, inflating his ERA to 5.40 through 16.2 frames in the big leagues this season. He'll be joined by Connor Phillips on the trip back to Louisville, and the Reds will bring up Zach Maxwell from Triple-A and activate Caleb Ferguson (oblique) from the IL to round out the active roster.

  • Reds' Jose Franco: Back in big leagues

The Reds recalled Franco from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. The 25-year-old was optioned to Louisville on May 8 but will return to the majors and provide Cincinnati with some bullpen depth. Franco has a 4.30 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 12:11 K:BB across 14.2 frames in the big leagues this year.

  • Reds' Jose Franco: Dispatched to minors

The Reds optioned Franco to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. He's exiting the roster to make space for Nick Lodolo (finger), who is back from the injured list to make his season debut Friday. Franco has been shaky during his time with the big club this season, posting a 4.30 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 12:11 K:BB over 14.2 innings. The 25-year-old will likely go back into the rotation at Louisville.

  • Reds' Jose Franco: Throws bulk innings Wednesday

Franco allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over three relief innings in Wednesday's 13-2 loss to the Rockies. The Reds bullpen had a lot of work to do when starter Brandon Williamson was removed after three innings with left shoulder fatigue. Franco, who was a starter at Triple-A Louisville, could slot into the rotation pending the results of Williamson's MRI, which is scheduled for Thursday. Aside from Franco, the Reds could also reach down to Louisville for Chase Petty, who was removed early from his start Wednesday for what appears to be a potential recall should Williamson be unavailable when his next turn in the rotation comes due Monday.

He's now back to take the big-league bullpen spot of Kyle Nicolas, who was optioned to Louisville in a corresponding transaction. Franco will likely work in middle and long relief while up with the Reds.
