  • Mariners' Miles Mastrobuoni: Sidelined with calf strain

The Mariners placed Mastrobuoni (calf) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Mastrobuoni strained his right calf while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic two weeks ago. He'll be eligible to return April 1, but the utility player figures to require a bit more down time than that.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes on IL with shoulder injury

The Mariners placed Crawford (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Crawford has battled nagging right shoulder inflammation since the start of spring training and was given a cortisone injection last week. He is eligible for activation April 1 and has expressed optimism that he could return within the next couple weeks, per Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. Leo Rivas will fill in at shortstop for the Mariners while Crawford is shelved.

  • Zach Cole LF | HOU

Astros' Zach Cole: Misses out on Opening Day roster

The Astros optioned Cole to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

Over the final two and a half weeks of the 2025 season, Cole turned some heads by producing a .255/.327/.553 slash line in his first taste of the big leagues, though it came with a bloated 38.5 percent strikeout rate. After Cole continued to strike out at a 40 percent clip during the Grapefruit League and was unable to provide enough power (.200 ISO) to compensate for it, the Astros will elect to send the 25-year-old back to Triple-A for further refinement. Houston will carry Brice Matthews on its Opening Day roster as a fourth outfielder and backup infielder.

  • Bryce Miller SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Shelved by oblique strain

The Mariners placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a left oblique strain.

Miller strained his left oblique in late February and was limited to just one appearance during Cactus League play. He's thrown a pair of bullpen sessions recently and hasn't encountered any known setbacks, but the righty will require several weeks to be build back up, per Adam Jude of The Seattle Times. Emerson Hancock will occupy a spot in the Mariners rotation until Miller is ready to make his 2026 debut.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: On bench for season opener

Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Even after an impressive spring in which he posted a .759 OPS in the Cactus League, the right-handed-hitting Encarnacion will be passed over for a spot in the GIants' season-opening lineup against Yankees southpaw Max Fried. The Giants will go with Casey Schmitt at first base in the opener, while Rafael Devers starts at designated hitter.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Mariners' Mitch Garver: Added to roster

The Mariners selected Garver's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Garver re-signed with Seattle as a non-roster invitee after camp opened and beat out Jhonny Pereda and Andrew Knizner for the backup catcher job. The 35-year-old will see some starts at catcher on days Cal Raleigh serves as the designated hitter, but Garver's playing time should be fairly limited.

  • Quinn Priester SP | MIL

Brewers' Quinn Priester: Move to IL made official

The Brewers placed Priester (wrist) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Priester first developed right wrist soreness late last season and was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome after the discomfort cropped up again in Brewers camp. It's viewed as a relatively mild case of TOS and the hope is Priester is ready for his season debut around early May, but it's far from a guarantee he'll be ready by that time.

  • White Sox's Prelander Berroa: Goes on 15-day IL

The White Sox placed Berroa (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Berroa had Tommy John surgery last March and is still working his way back into game shape. The right-handed reliever has been throwing off a mound since early February, so he might not be far off from a rehab assignment if all goes well.

  • Steward Berroa CF | PHI

Brewers' Steward Berroa: Sidelined with shoulder strain

The Brewers placed Berroa (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Berroa was held out for the entirety of the Brewers' Cactus League schedule after developing a right shoulder strain early in camp. It's unclear where his rehab currently stands, but his absence is sure to last beyond the minimum 10 days.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Exits 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Stubbs for assignment Wednesday.

Stubbs lost out to Rafael Marchan for the Phillies' backup catcher job and is now without a spot on the 40-man roster. The 32-year-old has slashed only .215/.293/.310 in parts of seven big-league seasons, but catching depth is always a commodity so he could be scooped up on waivers.
