  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Sitting again Sunday

Yoshida is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

The left-handed-hitting Yoshida will hit the bench for the third time in four games despite the Red Sox facing right-handed starting pitchers in each of those contests. With Yoshida having cobbled together an underwhelming .248/.329/.331 slash line over 164 plate appearances on the season, the Red Sox appear ready to scale back his role to see if another player can inject some life into the offense.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Idle for second straight game

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Monasterio will be on the bench for a second straight game while the Red Sox give Anthony Seigler another turn at second base. Boston went with Monasterio at the keystone in each of the three games before that, with the 29-year-old going 2-for-10 with four strikeouts in those contests. Monasterio and Seigler could work in a timeshare at the position while the Red Sox are without all of Trevor Story (sports hernia), Romy Gonzalez (shoulder/hip), Nick Sogard (oblique) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa (forearm).

  • Rangers' Jordan Montgomery: Starting rehab assignment

Montgomery (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Double-A Frisco.

The left-hander has been working his way back from the hybrid UCL reconstruction surgery he underwent on his elbow in March 2025, and he's now entering the final stage of his rehab program. Montgomery will require a handful of rehab starts in the minor leagues before gaining full clearance, lining him up to potentially join the Rangers in late July or early August.

  • Carlos Cortes RF | ATH

Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Idle against southpaw

Cortes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

Cortes is stuck in a 2-for-29 slump at the plate over his last 10 games, and since the left-handed hitter likely would have struggled to get back on track Sunday versus Angels southpaw Reid Detmers, the Athletics have elected to keep him on the bench for a second straight game. Joey Meneses will step in for Cortes as the Athletics' designated hitter in the series finale.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Heading to bench vs. lefty

Butler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

After starting in six of the Athletics' previous seven games, the left-handed-hitting Butler will head to the bench while the Angels send southpaw Reid Detmers to the bump Sunday. Colby Thomas will replace Butler in right field and will bat seventh.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Sitting against lefty

McNeil is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

The left-handed-hitting McNeil will retreat to the bench for the series finale while the Athletics face off against Angels lefty Reid Detmers. McNeil had started in each of the Athletics' previous seven games, going 5-for-18 (.278 average) with one home run, one double, two walks, four RBI and four runs.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Athletics' Luis Severino: Shifts to 60-day IL

The Athletics transferred Severino (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

The right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to a shoulder strain and was scheduled to be evaluated in 4-to-6 weeks, so he already seemed likely to spend more than 60 days on the shelf. Now three weeks into his recovery, Severino could be re-evaluated within the next week or two, at which point a target date for his return could begin to come into focus.

  • Zack Gelof 3B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Leading off in return

Gelof will start at second base and bat leadoff Sunday against the Angels in his return to the lineup after sitting out Saturday's 7-0 loss due to general soreness, MLB.com reports.

Though the Athletics didn't specifically indicate that Gelof's absence Saturday was related to being hit in the head by a pitch a night earlier, he may have been held out of the lineup for precautionary reasons. He feels well enough to return to the starting nine Sunday as the Athletics' leadoff man, marking his third consecutive appearance atop the batting order.

  • Jose Siri LF | LAA

Angels' Jose Siri: Nabbing fifth straight start

Siri will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Siri will occupy center field for the fifth game in a row and looks set to handle an everyday role following Mike Trout's (hamstring) recent move to the injured list. Since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake on May 16, Siri is slashing .283/.343/.533 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 14 runs in 29 games.

  • Oswald Peraza 2B | LAA

Angels' Oswald Peraza: On bench against righty again

Peraza is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Peraza is on the bench for a second straight game while the Angels go up against another right-handed starter (Jack Perkins). Though the right-handed-hitting Peraza should remain a mainstay in the lineup versus lefties, playing time against same-handed pitching could prove to be more elusive after the Angels recently returned Vaughn Grissom from the injured list and called up Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake.
