  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Dropped from starting nine Monday

McLain is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

After being dropped to the ninth spot in the batting order during Sunday's 1-0 loss to the Pirates, McLain will be left out of the lineup entirely as the Reds open a four-game set in Chicago. McLain might be losing hold of a regular starting role, as he's undoubtedly failed to meet expectations for the Reds and fantasy managers alike early on this season. The 26-year-old has produced a .195/.308/.293 slash line with two home runs, five steals, nine RBI and 13 runs through 34 games.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Exiting starting nine Monday

Norby is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Though he'll be taking a seat for Monday's series finale, Norby still appears to be ahead of Christopher Morel in the pecking order at first base. Since Morel was activated from the injured list last Monday, Norby started in five of the Marlins' ensuing seven games and went 5-for-18 with two doubles, three walks, two stolen bases and an RBI during that stretch.

  • Thomas Saggese SS | STL

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Sent down to minors

The Cardinals optioned Saggese to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Saggese has slashed just .170/.228/.208 in 18 games this season, and with Nathan Church sucking up most of the at-bats in left field, Saggese hadn't played in a week. He will get more regular reps at Memphis, and Cesar Prieto will take Saggese's spot on the active roster.

  • Cesar Prieto SS | STL

Cardinals' Cesar Prieto: Back in big leagues

The Cardinals recalled Prieto from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

St. Louis optioned infielder/outfielder Thomas Saggese to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Prieto has gotten off to a great start at Memphis this season, slashing .311/.357/.566 with six home runs over 28 contests. Slated to turn 27 on Sunday, Prieto can handle second base, third base and shortstop and will likely operate mainly as a reserve infielder.

  • Tyrone Taylor RF | NYM

Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Heading to bench Monday

Taylor is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

Taylor will hit the bench after starting in the Mets' previous three games while going 1-for-11 with a walk and an RBI. Though his playing-time outlook has improved with Luis Robert (back) recently landing on the injured list, Taylor may have to settle for a part-time role in center field against right-handed pitching since rookie Carson Benge is also capable of covering the position.

  • Chase Petty P | CIN

Reds' Chase Petty: Summoned ahead of Monday's start

The Reds recalled Petty from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Petty will be the Reds' starting pitcher for Monday's contest versus the Cubs in place of the injured Brandon Williamson (shoulder). It is likely to be just a spot start, as the Reds are expected to get Nick Lodolo (finger) back from the injured list later this week. Petty has collected a 4.38 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB over 24.2 innings with Louisville this season.

  • Zach Maxwell RP | CIN

Reds' Zach Maxwell: Dispatched to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Maxwell to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Maxwell's latest stint in the majors lasted just one day, with the right-hander going unused out of the bullpen Sunday in the Reds' 1-0 loss to the Pirates. He'll give up his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Chase Petty, who was recalled from Louisville ahead of his start Monday against the Cubs.

  • Juan Soto LF | NYM

Mets' Juan Soto: Batting leadoff Monday

Soto will start in left field and bat leadoff in Monday's game versus the Rockies.

It's just the third time that Soto has ever batted leadoff and the first time since 2021 he's been at the top of the batting order. He had batted second in each of his first 19 contests this season. Soto is flipping spots with Bo Bichette, who will move down to the two hole.

  • Jake McCarthy RF | COL

Rockies' Jake McCarthy: On bench for series opener

McCarthy is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

With southpaw David Peterson serving as the Mets' bulk reliever Monday, the left-handed-hitting McCarthy will head to the bench for the second time in three games. He'll cede center field to Brenton Doyle, who will bat ninth.

  • Troy Johnston RF | COL

Rockies' Troy Johnston: Idle for series opener

Johnston is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

With left-hander David Peterson slated to work in bulk relief for New York, Johnston will begin Monday's contest on the bench along with fellow left-handed batters Edouard Julien and Jake McCarthy. Jordan Beck will enter the Colorado lineup in Johnston's stead, manning right field and batting sixth.
