  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Taking seat Sunday

Schmitt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

After going 0-for-9 with a 3:3 BB:K while starting in each of the last three games, Schmitt will take a seat for the series finale in Los Angeles. Christian Koss will fill in at second base for Schmitt.

  • Daylen Lile LF | WAS

Nationals' Daylen Lile: Exits with knee contusion

Lile was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets in the bottom of the third inning due to a left knee contusion. He went 1-for-1 with a base hit and a run prior to his departure.

Lile sustained the injury when he slammed his knee into the left-field wall in foul territory while attempting to make a sliding catch, per Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post. After an extended delay, Lile was able to walk off the field under his own power, and X-rays on his knee have since come back negative. Though Lile appears to have avoided a serious injury, his availability for the final week of the season is in question.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Ends up starting, exiting early

Arenado was a late addition to the starting nine for Sunday's game against the Brewers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He didn't play an inning in the field and didn't take an at-bat before departing.

Arenado's inclusion in the starting nine was merely ceremonial, as the Cardinals had him get introduced to the Busch Stadium crowd for the final time this season before removing him before the first inning got underway. Nolan Gorman stepped in at third base to replace Arenado, who is under contract through 2027 but could be a trade candidate this offseason.

  • Eric Wagaman 1B | NYM

Marlins' Eric Wagaman: Taking seat Sunday

Wagaman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

After seeing his seven-game hitting streak end with an 0-for-3 showing in Saturday's 4-3 win, Wagaman will hit the bench Sunday. The 28-year-old should continue to play regularly against left-handed pitching during the final week of the season, though he may have to settle for a part-time role against right-handed pitching after the Marlins recently welcomed back fellow infielders Connor Norby and Graham Pauley from the 10-day injured list.

  • Javier Sanoja 3B | MIA

Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Playing time on downswing

Sanoja is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Sanoja had made eight consecutive starts while moving between three different spots (second base, third base and left field) from Sept. 11 through this past Thursday, but he now finds himself on the bench for the third contest in a row. With Miami recently returning Connor Norby, Graham Pauley and Dane Myers from the injured list, Sanoja could be relegated to a short-side platoon role heading into the final week of the season.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Seeing semi-frequent playing time

Pauley will start at third base and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Though he doesn't have a direct path to an everyday role at any one position, Pauley has now picked up starts in four of the Marlins' six games since being reinstated from the injured list Monday. He's seen action at three different spots in the infield, making two starts at third base and one apiece at second base and first base.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Brewers' Danny Jansen: Drawing start for day game

Jansen will start at catcher and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

With the Brewers playing a day game after a night game and with top backstop Willson Contreras nursing a bruised hand coming out of Saturday's 3-2 win, Jansen will receive a turn behind the plate. Since being acquired from the Rays on July 28, Jansen is slashing .226/.311/.340 through his first 20 games with Milwaukee.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Receiving rest Sunday

Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Fermin will get a breather for Sunday's matinee after he started behind the plate in each of the previous three contests. Elias Diaz will handle catching duties in the series finale.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Nationals' CJ Abrams: Managing shoulder injury

Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets due to a jammed right shoulder, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Nasim Nunez will fill in at shortstop in place of Abrams, who sustained the injury when he was tagged out while trying to advance to third base in the 11th inning of Saturday's 5-3 win. According to interim manager Miguel Cairo, Abrams will be available to pinch hit Sunday if needed, so the 24-year-old's absence from the lineup appears to be mostly precautionary in nature.

  • Robert Hassell CF | WAS

Nationals' Robert Hassell: Sitting against southpaw

Hassell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

With southpaw Sean Manaea starting for the Mets, Hassell will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Right-hander Clay Holmes is expected to piggyback Manaea at some point during the contest, so Hassell could be a candidate to replace center fielder Jacob Young once Holmes takes over.
