Giants manager Tony Vitello said Monday that "there's a chance" Mayer (forearm/foot) returns before the end of the season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Mayer had seemed close to returning from his left forearm stress reaction in late August, only to suffer a setback when he developed a bone bruise in his right foot. Vitello noted that Mayer is close to resuming his rehab assignment, though he didn't offer a specific date. Acquired from the Red Sox at the trade deadline, Mayer will be making his Giants debut when he sees action.

Smith is not in the lineup for Monday's contest against the Reds.

The Dodgers have eased Smith back into things since he was activated from the injured list last week, as this is the third time he's been out of the lineup in seven games. Hunter Feduccia is doing the catching and will bat seventh in the series opener.

Betts is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Reds.

It's a rare off day for Betts, who had started each of the previous 21 games for the Dodgers. Betts boasts a .952 OPS with three home runs and a 9:7 BB:K over his last 75 plate appearances. Alex Freeland will slot in at shortstop in Betts' stead Monday.

The Dodgers recalled Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

Sheehan will start Monday's game against the Reds, which will be his first start in the big leagues since early August. The right-hander has been on a roll of late at Oklahoma City, permitting just one earned run with a 16:4 K:BB over his last two starts covering 11.2 innings. It's possible Sheehan will receive additional starts this month if things go well. He's logged a disappointing 5.29 ERA in 20 starts with the big club in 2026.

The Dodgers optioned Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

Miller made his first appearance with the Dodgers since May 2025 on Sunday, allowing one run in three innings versus the Nationals. His spot on the roster is being taken by Emmet Sheehan.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Ohtani (knee/biceps) will be the designated hitter and leadoff man in Monday's game against the Reds, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Ohtani missed each of the last four contests as he deals with lingering right biceps soreness and left knee inflammation. While he's feeling well enough to return to action Monday, Ohtani could have to play through some discomfort the rest of the way. Roberts has not ruled out a return to pitching this year for Ohtani, but it's a long shot.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Monday that Burnes (elbow/shoulder) will return from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday's game versus the Royals in Kansas City, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.

Burnes will be making his season debut for the Diamondbacks, after his return from June 2025 Tommy John surgery was delayed when he sustained a teres major strain in June. The right-hander threw 17 pitches over two scoreless innings in his lone rehab start and then appeared in a bridge game last week to get further stretched out. Per MLB.com, Burnes tossed three innings and 43 pitches in the bridge game and then threw seven more pitches out of the bullpen, so it's difficult to imagine him pushing far past 60 pitches duringTuesday's start.

Pages (hand) began hitting off a tee over the weekend, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

It's the beginning of a hitting progression for Pages, who is working his way back from a fractured left hand. Pages is just over two weeks into a projected 4-to-5 week absence, and he would appear to have a chance to be back closer to the front end of that timeline. Tommy Edman has moved to center field for the Dodgers to cover for the absence of Pages, with Alex Freeland and Miguel Rojas slotting in at second base.

The Giants recalled Abner from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.

Abner was claimed off waivers in August and will be making his Giants debut when/if he enters a contest. The 24-year-old southpaw has logged a 6.28 ERA and 6:8 K:BB over 14.1 innings in the majors and a 4.54 ERA and 43:14 K:BB across 37.2 frames at the Triple-A level in 2026.

The Giants optioned Roxby to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.

Roxby made two appearances during his first-ever stint in the majors, yielding two runs over two frames. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by Philip Abner.
