  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Cracks homer in loss

Devers went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Padres.

Devers hit a leadoff home run in the third inning, marking his first homer since April 8. The veteran infielder has recorded a hit in seven straight games, batting .318 with five RBI and two runs scored in 27 plate appearances during that span. He's now slashing .221/.265/.329 with 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, three long balls and a 29.8 percent strikeout rate across 151 plate appearances this season.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Back with big club

The Marlins recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Hernandez was just optioned a little over a week ago but is back with the big club after going 6-for-22 in a five-game layover in Jacksonville. The right-handed-hitting Hernandez should see some reps against left-handers.

  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Exits Tuesday after pitch to head

Waldschmidt was out of the lineup Wednesday for Triple-A Reno's 9-5 loss to Sacramento after he was removed from Tuesday's series opener when he was hit in the helmet by a pitch in the top of the first inning, Preston Salisbury of AZSnakePit.com reports.

Waldschmidt initially stayed in the game after being evaluated, but he was lifted prior to the bottom of the second inning. The Diamondbacks haven't confirmed that Waldschmidt sustained a concussion or is dealing with concussion-like symptoms, but he'll be day-to-day until he makes his return to the Reno lineup. One of the top outfield prospects in baseball, Waldschmidt has provided a .285/.400/.480 slash line with three home runs and six steals over 151 plate appearances at Triple-A this season.

  • Stephen Jones RP | MIA

Marlins' Stephen Jones: Added to big-league bullpen

The Marlins selected Jones' contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Jones earned the promotion by holding a 3.24 ERA and 19:13 K:BB over 16.2 frames with Double-A Pensacola this season. The 28-year-old will be making his major-league debut when/if he enters a game.

  • Dax Fulton P | MIA

Marlins' Dax Fulton: Optioned after making debut

The Marlins optioned Fulton to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Fulton made his major-league debut Wednesday versus the Orioles with a solid four innings of relief, allowing a couple runs. He will likely rejoin the rotation at Jacksonville.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Sent down to minors

The Marlins optioned Pauley to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Pauley has slashed a lowly .173/.225/.293 with a pathetic 17.5 percent hard-hit rate this season, which wasn't enough to keep a regular role despite solid defense. With Pauley in the minors, Connor Norby should see more reps at third base for the Marlins.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Undergoes meniscus surgery

Boyd underwent a successful menisectomy Thursday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Boyd did not need a full repair of his meniscus, with Cubs manager Craig Counsell saying the surgery was "minor" and the club hopes to get the left-hander back in around six weeks. Jordan Wicks (elbow) and Javier Assad are candidates to grab Boyd's spot in the Cubs' rotation.

  • Cubs' Gavin Hollowell: Joins big-league bullpen

The Cubs recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Hollowell has permitted only two runs with a 15:6 K:BB over his first eight innings at Iowa. He'll give manager Craig Counsell a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Cubs' Corbin Martin: DFA'd by Cubs

The Cubs designated Martin for assignment Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Martin pitched well initially after being added to the Cubs' roster last month, but he was scored upon in each of his last three appearances. Gavin Hollowell will absorb his spot in the bullpen.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Absent from lineup

Lowe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Lowe had made 13 straight starts, as he's settled in as the everyday designated hitter since Eugenio Suarez (oblique) went on the injured list. Elly De La Cruz is getting a day at DH while Lowe gets some rest.
