  • Slade Cecconi SP | CLE

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Pulled after three innings

Cecconi (2-6) suffered the loss Sunday, allowing one run on five hits over three innings against the Phillies. He struck out two.

Cecconi completed three innings and was pulled after tossing just 46 pitches, having allowed one earned run. He had tossed at least 70 pitches in each of his previous nine starts, but after allowing five hits and facing 11 batters during the second and third innings and with a morning game-time temperature of 91 degrees, manager Torey Lovullo decided to pull the plug early on Cecconi's outing. Cecconi was coming off a performance on Tuesday in which he tossed six scoreless against the Nationals. His next start is scheduled to come in a much softer matchup next weekend as the Diamondbacks play host to Oakland.

  • Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Tosses seven scoreless

Sanchez (5-3) earned the win Sunday, allowing three hits and striking out four over seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks.

Sanchez was highly efficient, needing just 80 pitches through seven and facing just one batter over the minimum thanks to a couple of timely double plays. The seven innings matched a season high for Sanchez, who tossed his eighth quality start and allowed zero runs over six or more innings for the second time this season. It's also the fifth time in his last six starts that Sanchez has allowed one or fewer runs, and he's posted a 1.78 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 23 strikeouts over 35.1 innings during that stretch. His next start is scheduled to take place next weekend, when the Phillies welcome Miami into the City of Brotherly Love for a four-game set.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Idle Sunday

Chourio isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Chourio will get a chance to clear his head Sunday after going 3-for-17 with four RBI and two runs scored over his last five games. Sal Frelick, Blake Perkins and Jake Bauers will start across the Brewers' outfield while Christian Yelich serves as the DH.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Not starting Sunday

Hoskins isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Sunday's game versus San Diego.

Hoskins has tallied a base hit in each of his last five games, and he'll now get a day to rest versus Michael King and the Padres. Tyler Black will fill in as Milwaukee's first baseman and bat second.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Sitting Sunday

Contreras isn't in the Brewers' lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Contreras will get a day to regroup Sunday after posting a .494 OPS through 18 games since the start of June. Gary Sanchez will fill in at catcher and bat eighth.

  • Padres' Kyle Higashioka: Getting Sunday off

Higashioka isn't in the Padres' lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

After hitting a two-run home run en route to a win Saturday, Higashioka will take a seat for Sunday's series finale while Brett Sullivan gets the nod behind home plate.

  • Padres' Jurickson Profar: In Sunday's lineup

Profar (knee) will start in left field and bat second Sunday versus the Brewers.

Profar guaranteed he would return to the starting nine Sunday after missing Saturday's 6-4 win, and he has come through on his promise. The 31-year-old has tallied at least one base hit in each of his last six games, going 7-for-24 with three RBI and three runs scored in that span.

  • Padres' Fernando Tatis: Sitting again Sunday

Tatis (triceps) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Milwaukee.

Tatis exited Friday's 9-5 win after getting hit in the left arm by a pitch, and he'll now miss his second consecutive start as a result. David Peralta will once again start in right field while Donovan Solano serves as San Diego's designated hitter. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Mike Shildt said Tatis would have been available to pinch hit in Saturday's 6-2 loss if an opportunity presented itself, so the 25-year-old would appear to be day-to-day and could be ready to return to the lineup during the Padres' upcoming three-game series with the Nationals that begins Monday.

  • Eddie Rosario RF | MIL

Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Idle against southpaw

Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup Sunday versus the Rockies.

With left-hander Kyle Freeland on the bump for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Rosario will take a seat on Washington's bench. His absence will move Nick Senzel into the DH role while Trey Lipscomb starts at the hot corner, batting seventh.

  • Phillies' Spencer Turnbull: Moving back into rotation

Turnbull is scheduled to join the rotation and start Wednesday against the Tigers in Detroit, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

He'll be taking over the rotation spot that previously belonged to Taijuan Walker, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right index finger inflammation after developing what manager Rob Thomson termed as a "hot spot" on his pitching hand. Though an injury of this sort wouldn't seem to portend a lengthy absence for Walker, Turnbull could end up sticking around as the Phillies' No. 5 starter once Walker is healthy, so long as Turnbull comes close to recapturing the excellent form he displayed as a member of the rotation earlier this season. The Phillies have stated that they plan to monitor Turnbull's workload this season after he missed all of 2022 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and a large portion of 2023 due to neck discomfort, but the 31-year-old right-hander has made it difficult for the club to stick to that plan while he's performed so-so as a reliever (4.26 ERA, 14.1 K-BB% in 10 appearances) but exceptionally in his six starts (1.67 ERA, 20.5 K-BB%). His upcoming start against his former Tigers club will be his first since April 30, but Turnbull worked three scoreless innings (49 pitches) in his most recent relief outing Friday and is being targeted for around 70 pitches Wednesday, per Thomson.
