Walker is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Mets, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Walker will take a seat for the early game to clear a spot in the lineup at designated hitter for Alec Burleson, one of three left-handed hitters the Cardinals will deploy at the top of the order to counter Mets right-hander Blade Tidwell. Expect Walker to check back into the starting nine for the second game of the day against Mets righty Tylor Megill.

Warren was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse and subsequently recalled to serve as the 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

The right-hander was called up Friday by the Mets and didn't appear in that game, so he'll stick around as bullpen depth for the twin bill. Warren has a 4.35 ERA and 14:9 K:BB across 10.1 innings with Triple-A Syracuse this season but has yet to make his 2025 debut in the majors.

Taylor is out of the lineup for first game of Sunday's doubleheader in St. Louis.

Since he returned from the injured list April 24, Jeff McNeil has represented Taylor's primary competition for playing time in center field, but McNeil will head back to his familiar spot at second base in the first game of the day while Jose Azocar gets the nod in center. Taylor owns a pedestrian .601 OPS on the season, but he's been playing well of late, going 7-for-15 with three extra-base knocks over his last five games. The Mets should continue to keep at least semi-regular playing time open for Taylor while he's swinging a hot bat.

Alvarez is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader in St. Louis.

Alvarez will take a seat for the early game but should be back behind the plate for the second contest of the day to form a battery with starting pitcher Tylor Megill. Luis Torrens will handle the catching duties in Game 1.

The Mets transferred Young (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Young is slated to undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future, which will end his season and likely keep him out until the second half of the 2026 campaign. By shifting him to the 60-day IL, the Mets were able to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Blade Tidwell, who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader in St. Louis. Before being shut down in late April with the elbow injury, Young had been a key piece in the New York bullpen, gathering four holds while pitching to a 4.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB across 8.1 innings in 10 appearances.

The Mets selected Tidwell's contract from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of his scheduled start in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Tidwell is making his MLB debut in a spot start to give the Mets' rotation extra rest before he returns to Syracuse. Over his six Triple-A outings in 2025, the 23-year-old righty has delivered a 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB across 27 innings.

Espinal started at third base and went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals.

Espinal made a fourth straight start, this time filling in for the resting Noelvi Marte at third base. He's also started in left field twice and at second base once during that stretch, going 9-for-15 with two doubles, five RBI and two runs scored. The utility player is slashing .347/.402/.413 through 25 games and could end up holding down a near-everyday role while Austin Hays (hamstring), Christian Encarnacion-Strand (back) and Jeimer Candelario (back) are all on the injured list.

Steer went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 11-6 loss to Washington.

He struggled at the beginning of the season while able to serve only as a designated hitter due to a shoulder issue, but since Steer has been cleared for defensive duties, his bat has come alive. Prior to April 20, Steer had a .390 OPS with three RBI over 15 games. Since then, he has an .851 OPS with eight RBI over 12 games.

Callihan started in left field and went 1-for-2 with an RBI in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals.

Callihan got the start against a right-hander and recorded his first hit in the majors. With Austin Hays (hamstring) on the injured list for the second time this season, the lefty-hitting Callihan could get an occasional start. Gavin Lux, who served as the designated hitter Saturday, should get most of the starts against righties in Hays' absence.

Carroll went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Phillies.

Carroll's hit a rough patch recently, going 5-for-34 (.147) while striking out 14 times (40.0 percent) over the last eight games. For the season, he's at a career-high 27.0 strikeout percentage (22nd percentile). Overall, Carroll's been a good fantasy value and ranks eighth in slugging (.586) and 13th in OPS (.930), but it seems he's altered his swing in 2025 with an emphasis on getting the ball in the air (up to 60.6 percent). He's also chasing more than previous seasons, swinging at pitches outside the zone 36.6 percent of the time (ninth percentile). A combination of these factors has led to more strikeouts and a 30.2 whiff percentage (19th percentile).
