  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Dodgers' Lou Trivino: Serving as opener Sunday

Trivino will serve as the Dodgers' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Trivino is expected to cover the first inning or two before giving way to left-hander Justin Wrobleski, who will be available to pitch in bulk relief on four days' rest. The Dodgers previously called upon Trivino to serve as an opener against the Padres on June 10, when he tossed a scoreless inning.

  • Giants' Christian Koss: Getting sixth straight start

Koss will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Koss will pick up his sixth straight start, including his fourth in a row at third base with Casey Schmitt (wrist) still not ready to return to the lineup. Schmitt is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday and could still land on the injured list, which would allow Koss to retain a regular spot in the starting nine. If Schmitt is back in action in the coming days, however, Koss would vie with Brett Wisely for playing time at second base.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Giants' Dominic Smith: Losing work to Flores

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

After Rafael Devers made his Giants debut June 17, Smith remained in the lineup at first base for San Francisco's ensuing two matchups against right-handed pitchers. Since then however, Smith appears to have faded into a part-time role in favor of Wilmer Flores, who was displaced at DH by Devers. Smith is on the bench Sunday for the fifth time in the Giants' last eight matchups with a righty.

  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Scratched again Sunday

Schmitt (wrist) was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 26-year-old was also scratched from the lineup Saturday as he continues to manage a wrist injury. According to Rubin, manager Bob Melvin said Schmitt is likely to undergo an MRI once the Giants travel to Arizona on Monday, and it remains unclear if a trip to the injured list will be necessary.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Pirates' Dennis Santana: Begins serving three-game ban

Santana will begin serving a three-game suspension Sunday following a successful appeal that reduced his ban from four games, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Major League Baseball previously issued a four-game suspension and a fine to the right-hander June 20, one day after he was deemed to have engaged in "aggressive conduct toward a fan near the bullpen" during the Pirates' doubleheader with the Tigers. Santana remained available over the past nine days after appealing, but he'll now be out through Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. Santana has been one of the Pirates' top relievers this season, notching five saves, nine holds and two wins over 36 appearances while pitching to a 1.50 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB across 36 innings.

  • Brandon Sproat SP | MIL

Mets' Brandon Sproat: Rare strong outing for Syracuse

Sproat gave up two hits and three walks over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. He struck out six.

The 24-year-old right-hander tossed 78 pitches (51 strikes) in his best outing in nearly a month. Sproat has struggled with his consistency this season, and he's issued multiple walks in five of his last seven trips to the mound -- a stretch in which, even after Saturday's performance, he's posted a 4.88 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and poor 18:19 K:BB over 27.2 innings. The Mets' big-league rotation is in tatters with Kodai Senga (hamstring), Griffin Canning (Achilles) and Tylor Megill (elbow) all currently on the IL and Sean Manaea (elbow) not quite ready to make his 2025 debut, but Sproat doesn't appear ready to help.

  • Padres' Martin Maldonado: Getting breather Sunday

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

He'll hit the bench for the series finale after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts while starting behind the plate in the first two contests in Cincinnati. Elias Diaz will handle catching duties for San Diego on Sunday.

  • Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Out of Sunday's lineup

Kiner-Falefa is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Kiner-Falefa will head to the bench after a run of 17 straight starts, during which he struggled to a .200/.237/.255 slash line at the plate. Jared Triolo will fill in at shortstop Sunday for the Buccos.

  • Joey Bart C | ATL

    Pirates' Joey Bart: Resting Sunday

Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Bart was behind the plate for the first two games of the series, but he'll get some rest for Sunday's matinee contest. Henry Davis will handle catching duties for the Pirates, forming a battery with starting pitcher Mike Burrows.

  • Nick Gonzales 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Getting afternoon off

Gonzales is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Gonzales will get his first day off since June 12, opening up the keystone for Adam Frazier. While starting the prior 14 games, Gonzales batted .333 with two home runs, seven RBI and six runs.
