Backhus (0-1) was the losing pitcher in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Angels. He allowed one run on two hits and hit a batter over one-third of an inning.

Backhus entered a tie game in the bottom of the ninth inning and got the first batter out, before the Angles walked off with the win. The rookie has emerged as a name to monitor in the Diamondbacks' bullpen, which has suffered a string of injuries to closers. The left-hander entered Friday with a 1.86 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with five holds over his first 10 outings (9.2 innings).

Herrera (hamstring) was given pregame reps in the outfield with the Cardinals prior to beginning his rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Herrera's playing time at catcher in the second half will be reduced -- if not outright eliminated -- as the Cardinals look to keep him healthy and also prioritize defense at the position. The 25-year-old will be the team's primary designated hitter down the stretch, but he's being worked out in the outfield "to see what that looks like," per manager Oliver Marmol. Herrera has played 14 games at catcher this season, so he is in danger of losing catcher eligibility heading into 2026, if your league uses a 20-game threshold. He is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list for the first game after the All-Star break.

Miller (forearm) will seek a second opinion after receiving MRI results, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. "They're gonna give him the information and then let him figure out what the next course of action is," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "The right flexor mass, flexor tendon and then the UCL, I think they're gonna do a whole workup and make sure that it's all stable and in a good spot."

What comes next will either be Miller coming back or having surgery. He had evolved into the Diamondbacks' closer following elbow injuries to Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk. If Miller is set to miss significant time -- either with or without surgery -- Lovullo will have to scramble to find a closing option. With Jalen Beeks (back) placed on the injured list Friday, veterans Kevin Ginkel and Kendall Graveman and rookie Kyle Backhus have emerged as candidates.

Shaw isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Shaw has been held hitless in his last 21 at-bats and will get a day off Saturday to regroup. Jon Berti will start at third base and bat ninth for Chicago.

Busch isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Busch went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk in Friday's loss, putting an end to what had been a six-game hitting streak. He'll get a chance to refresh Saturday while Justin Turner starts at first base, batting eighth.

Rodriguez picked up a hold in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers, allowing one earned run on three hits over 1.2 innings.

Rodriguez entered the game with one out in the sixth inning, tasked with protecting an 8-6 lead. The All-Star gave up a double and a single in the seventh, surrendering his first run since June 12 before inducing the final out. The 25-year-old right-hander now owns a 0.89 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 54:8 K:BB across 40.2 innings in 40 appearances this season.

Yastrzemski went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double and a walk in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers.

Yastrzemski lined a double to right field in the third inning, marking his first two-bagger since June 17. The 34-year-old also drew a walk in the fifth before coming around to score. Over 33 plate appearances this month, the outfielder has recorded a .250/.344/.393 slash line with four runs scored, one home run, one stolen base and a 4:10 BB:K.

Encarnacion (oblique) will play in some rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the All-Star break before joining Triple-A Sacramento, per MLB.com.

Encarnacion was placed on the 10-day injured list June 17 due to a left oblique strain, though he's now ramping up for a return to the big leagues. The 27-year-old has appeared in only eight games in 2025, having missed over two months to start the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left hand in mid-March. In those eight games, he recorded a .136/.136/.182 slash line with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in 22 plate appearances.

Atlanta optioned Wiles to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Wiles was called up from Triple-A on Wednesday but will return to the minors without making an appearance for the big club. Joey Wentz, who was claimed off waivers from Minnesota on Friday, will officially report to Atlanta to claim the open bullpen spot.

Atlanta placed Riley on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right abdominal strain.

Riley's abdomen forced him to make an early exit during the fourth inning of Friday's contest, and now that further evaluation has confirmed a strain, he'll remain on the sidelines until at least July 22. Nacho Alvarez will come up from Triple-A Gwinnett to replenish Atlanta's infield depth, though Luke Williams is the most likely option to take over at third base until Riley returns.
