Astros' Nick Hernandez: Summoned from Triple-A
The Astros recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.
After a month-long stay at Triple-A, Hernandez will rejoin the Houston bullpen as a replacement on the active roster for right-hander Luis Garcia (elbow), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Over five relief appearances with the Astros this season, Hernandez has submitted a 5.40 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

Luis Garcia SP | NYY
Astros' Luis Garcia: Back on IL with elbow discomfort
The Astros placed Garcia on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right elbow discomfort.
After missing more than two seasons of big-league action while recovering from Tommy John surgery and associated complications, Garcia was activated from the injured list Sept. 1 but made just two starts for Houston before experiencing more elbow trouble. The Astros don't yet have an updated diagnosis for Garcia after he exited midway through the second inning of his start in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Toronto, but more clarity on that front should arrive once the right-hander undergoes an MRI. Even if Garcia's upcoming tests reveal no long-term concern, his history of elbow problems suggests he's unlikely to make it back from the IL before the end of the regular season. AJ Blubaugh tossed 3.1 innings of long relief after Garcia exited Tuesday's contest, so Blubaugh could be the next man up to enter the rotation when Garcia's turn comes up again Sunday in Atlanta.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: On track to return Friday
O'Neill (wrist) is on track to return from the 10-day injured list Friday in Toronto, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Anthony Volpe SS | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Starting job no longer secure
Volpe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Tigers, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he's "in day-to-day mode" in terms of his decision on who will start at shortstop, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Boone said Tuesday that Volpe remained his starting shortstop, but he seemed to back off that declaration a day later, noting that Jose Caballero -- who is drawing the start at the position Wednesday -- is also in the mix for regular reps at shortstop. Volpe is slashing just .125/.135/.222 with a 29:1 K:BB over his last 21 games and has had numerous defensive lapses.

Kerry Carpenter RF | DET
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Idle against southpaw
Carpenter is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
As per usual, the left-handed-hitting Carpenter will take a seat while the Tigers face off against a lefty starter (Carlos Rodon) in Wednesday's tilt. With Carpenter on the bench, the Tigers will go with Jahmai Jones as their designated hitter.

Colt Keith 3B | DET
Tigers' Colt Keith: Taking seat against southpaw
Keith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
With southpaw Carlos Rodon on the hill for the Yankees, the left-handed-hitting Keith will retreat to the bench. Andy Ibanez will replace Keith in the starting nine, manning third base and batting sixth.

Zach McKinstry 2B | DET
Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Out Wednesday with back issue
McKinstry (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
McKinstry is day-to-day will back stiffness, which resulted in him being scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 12-2 win. He'll remain on the bench Wednesday, though even if fully healthy, the left-handed-hitting utility player might have sat anyway with southpaw Carlos Rodon on the bump for New York.

Jose Altuve 2B | HOU
Astros' Jose Altuve: Day off amidst slump
Altuve is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Toronto.
Altuve enters action Wednesday having gone just 2-for-29 at the plate over his last seven games, so he will get a day off to regroup. Ramon Urias will handle second base and Victor Caratini will be in the designated-hitter spot for the Astros.
