  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Throwing program paused

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Martin (elbow) is dealing with some discomfort and has been shut down from throwing, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

The Red Sox currently don't have any plans to take Martin in for imaging, though that may change if he doesn't begin to feel better soon. The 38-year-old is eligible to return from the injured list immediately after the All-Star break, though his latest flareup will likely push back his return date.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Throwing off mound Sunday

Verlander (neck) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Sunday will mark the first time Verlander has thrown off a mound since a neck injury forced him to the IL on June 18. He's only expected to reach 10-to-15 pitches during his session, but it's still a sign that the veteran right-hander is trending in the right direction. He remains without a firm timetable for his return, though he will likely need some time to build back up to a starter's workload.

  • Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Sitting down Saturday

Dubon isn't in the Astros' lineup for Saturday's game against Texas, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Dubon went 0-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs during a win in Friday's series opener, and he'll step aside Saturday as Chas McCormick starts in left field while batting ninth.

  • Jose Siri LF | LAA

Rays' Jose Siri: Not starting Saturday

Siri isn't in the Rays' lineup Saturday against the Guardians, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports.

After going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday, lowering his batting average to just .125 (4-for-32) since the start of July, Siri will get a chance to regroup Saturday while Jonny DeLuca starts in center field.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

    Rays' Taylor Walls: Idle Saturday

Walls isn't in the Rays' lineup for Saturday's game versus Cleveland, Steve Carney of StPeteNine.com reports.

After going 0-for-3 with a walk during Friday's win, Walls will take a seat Saturday while Jose Caballero starts at shortstop, batting seventh.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Resting Saturday

Andujar isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Andujar will get a breather Saturday after slashing .233/.250/.349 with a home run and six RBI through Oakland's first 10 games of July. In his place, Daz Cameron will start in left field and bat seventh.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting Saturday

Mullins isn't in the Orioles' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Mullins will get a day to collect himself Saturday after slashing .167/.194/.200 to begin the month of July. While he rests, Colton Cowser will pick up a start in center field and bat eighth.

  • Orioles' Heston Kjerstad: In Saturday's lineup

Kjerstad (head) will start in left field and bat sixth Saturday against the Yankees.

Kjerstad was hit in the helmet by a pitch during Friday's contest and had to leave the game early, though he appears to have escaped the incident without any serious damage. The 25-year-old has provided a nice boost to Baltimore's lineup, slashing .378/.465/.676 with three homers and 12 RBI since being recalled from Triple-A on June 24.

  • Michel Otanez RP | TEX

Athletics' Michel Otanez: Returns to majors

The Athletics recalled Otanez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Otanez was dispatched to Triple-A on Friday, but he'll now return to Oakland's bullpen to make up for the loss of Luis Medina (elbow). The 27-year-old Otanez threw 3.1 shutout innings during his last stint in the majors, though he owns a 5.35 ERA through 37 frames in Triple-A and will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while with the A's.

  • Luis Medina RP | ATH

Athletics' Luis Medina: Hits IL with elbow sprain

The Athletics placed Medina on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow sprain.

Medina allowed six earned runs in five innings during his latest start Thursday, and it's possible his elbow injury contributed to his poor performance. He'll remain sidelined until at least July 28, and Michel Otanez will come up from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the open spot in Oakland's pitching staff.
