  • Nicky Lopez 2B | TEX

White Sox's Nicky Lopez: Not starting Saturday

Lopez isn't in the White Sox's lineup for Saturday's game versus the Cubs.

Lopez will get a breather Saturday after he went 3-for-5 with an RBI during a loss in Friday's series opener. While he rests, Brooks Baldwin will shift to shortstop while Lenyn Sosa and Miguel Vargas start at second and third base, respectively.

  • Trent Grisham CF | NYY

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Exits after HBP

Grisham was removed from the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rangers after getting hit in the hand by a pitch, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Grisham remained in the game to run the bases after taking a 96-mph fastball off his hand, but he was replaced in the field once the Yankees went out on defense. The 27-year-old outfielder will likely sit out Saturday's nightcap due to the incident, but his availability for Sunday's game is unclear.

  • Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Sitting down Saturday

Renfroe isn't in the Royals' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Renfroe has had a tough time at the plate as of late, going 0-for-16 with six strikeouts over his last four games. He'll get a day to regroup while Garrett Hampson starts in right field and bats eighth.

  • Alex Faedo SP | TB

    Tigers' Alex Faedo: Opening Saturday

Faedo will serve as the Tigers' opener during Saturday's game against the Giants, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Saturday will mark Faedo's fourth start of the season and his second of August. He was able to last 1.2 frames during his most recent opening assignment and will likely pitch a similar amount of innings against the Giants before handing the ball to Brant Hurter, who is expected to pitch in bulk relief.

  • Jake Rogers C | CHW

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Not starting Saturday

Rogers isn't in the Tigers' lineup Saturday versus the Giants.

Rogers has split time evenly behind the plate with Dillon Dingler ever since the latter arrived in the majors in late July. He'll step aside once again Saturday while Dingler catches for opener Alex Faedo.

  • Matt Vierling CF | DET

Tigers' Matt Vierling: Remaining sidelined Saturday

Vierling (back) isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.

Vierling was taken out of Thursday's game due to back spasms, and he'll now miss his second consecutive game as he continues to recover. Ryan Vilade will pick up another start in right field instead and bat ninth.

  • Akil Baddoo LF | MIL

Tigers' Akil Baddoo: Back in majors

The Tigers recalled Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.

With Wenceel Perez (oblique) headed for the injured list, the Tigers will call upon Baddoo to make up for the lost depth in their outfield unit. The 25-year-old has gone just 7-for-60 in the majors this season, though he owns an .847 OPS in 75 plate appearances since being optioned to Triple-A on July 12.

  • Wenceel Perez RF | DET

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Lands on injured list

The Tigers placed Perez on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain.

Perez had to make an early exit from Friday's contest due to what was labeled as abdominal tightness, but further evaluation confirmed the 24-year-old suffered a strain in his oblique. He'll now be sidelined until at least Aug. 20, and Akil Baddoo will come up from Triple-A Toledo to replenish the Tigers' outfield depth.

  • Astros' Kendall Graveman: Throws off mound

Graveman (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Saturday marks Graveman's first time throwing off a mound since he underwent surgery on his right shoulder during the offseason. He was only able to throw 10 pitches during his first bullpen session, but it's certainly a positive step toward a potential return late in the season.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Collects three hits vs. former club

Rendon went 3-for-5 with a stolen base in a loss to the Nationals on Friday.

None of Rendon's three singles led to any runs for the Angels, but the performance was still a positive one for the third baseman, who was playing at Nationals Park for the first time since winning the World Series with Washington in 2019. Rendon has dealt with a bevy of injuries since joining the Angels in 2020, and he's played in only 36 contests so far this year. The 34-year-old has gone 5-for-11 with two walks over three contests since returning from his most recent stint on the injured list Aug. 7.
