Tyler Holton RP | DET
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Covers three innings for hold
Holton tossed three scoreless innings to earn a hold in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Yankees. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
After starter Keider Montero covered five scoreless innings, Holton preserved Detroit's lead in the sixth, seventh and eighth to earn his ninth hold of the season. The lefty has emerged as the team's most reliable reliever this year, posting a sparkling 2.55 ERA and 0.83 WHIP across 70.2 innings. Among Detroit players who have primarily worked out of the bullpen this season, he leads the team in innings. Holton should remain a trusted relief option moving forward.

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Moved back to leadoff
Semien batted leadoff and went 1-for-4 in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Minnesota.

Carson Kelly C | CHC
Rangers' Carson Kelly: Extends hit streak in loss
Kelly started at designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Twins.
Kelly entered the starting lineup, replacing primary DH Josh Smith, and extended his hit streak to six games. During that stretch, Kelly is 9-for-23 with one home run, six RBI and four runs. He's eaten into the playing time of primary catcher Jonah Heim, who is 2-for-15 over the same stretch. Overall, since the Rangers acquired him from the Tigers, Kelly is batting .344/.382/.500 over 10 contests.

Matthew Lugo LF | KC
Angels' Matthew Lugo: Shut down with apparent hand injury
Triple-A Salt Lake transferred Lugo from its 7-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday while he recovers from an apparent hand injury, Jared Tims of TalkinHalos.com reports.
The Angels aren't required to shed light on Lugo's injury, but Tims suggests that the outfielder hurt his thumb while trying to make a defensive play in his organizational debut Aug. 2. Lugo, whom the Angels acquired from the Red Sox ahead of the trade deadline, went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double in his lone game for Salt Lake and will now be shut down for the season as a result of moving to the 60-day IL.

Jeremy Pena SS | HOU
Astros' Jeremy Pena: Sets career high in steals
Pena went 0-for-4 with a stolen base Saturday against the White Sox.
Pena saw his five-game hitting streak come to an end, but he still managed his 14th stolen base of the season to set a new career high. In contrast to 2023, he's been relatively efficient on the basepaths, going 14-for-19. That production has been just one part of Pena's strong season, as he's also maintaining a career-best .277 average across 500 plate appearances.

Joshua Lowe LF | LAA
Rays' Josh Lowe: Notches steal in sixth straight
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Lowe got the Rays going in the first inning by tallying an RBI triple and then proceeding to score on a double steal. He now has a stolen base in six consecutive contests, and he's also gone 6-for-21 with four RBI, three runs scored and three extra-base hits in that span.

Richard Lovelady RP | WAS
Rays' Richard Lovelady: Four-out save
Lovelady didn't allow a baserunner across 1.1 scoreless innings to pick up the save Saturday against Arizona.
Manuel Rodriguez began the eighth inning with a 6-1 lead but loaded the bases with two outs. Lovelady was called in to get out of the jam and induced a groundout against lefty Corbin Carroll to end the frame. He then remained in the contest and completed a clean ninth inning to unconventionally earn his second career save. Pete Fairbanks remains the primary closer for the Rays.

Kyle Isbel CF | KC
Royals' Kyle Isbel: Idle vs. left-hander
Isbel is absent from Sunday's lineup against Cincinnati.
The lefty-hitting Isbel will sit for a second straight contest with the Reds sending southpaw Andrew Abbott to the mound. Garrett Hampson will man center field and bat eighth.
-
MJ Melendez DH | NYM
Royals' MJ Melendez: Sitting vs. southpaw
Melendez is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Reds.
With the Reds sending southpaw Andrew Abbott to the mound, the lefty-hitting Melendez will sit for the second straight game. Dairon Blanco will start in left field and bat ninth.

Zach McKinstry RF | DET
Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Provides spark Saturday
McKinstry went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Yankees.
McKinstry batted ninth and provided an unexpected lift, as he came into the contest batting just .188 for the season. The utility man is now a career .215 hitter across 355 MLB games, so he's pretty much settled in as a low-impact offensive player who offers value to his team through his defensive versatility. That keeps McKinstry's fantasy appeal fairly limited.
