  • Luis Gil SP | NYY

Yankees' Luis Gil: Lands on minor-league IL

Gil was placed on Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's 7-day IL on Friday due to right shoulder inflammation, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Gil has been with the Triple-A club for less than two weeks after he was optioned April 26. He didn't make any appearances with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before landing on the IL, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that the shoulder inflammation is a new concern rather than one that contributed to Gil's poor performance while he was with the big-league club. Boone added that Gil won't throw for at least three weeks, so the right-hander is looking at an extended absence from game action.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Still not running

Stanton (calf) has yet to resume running, but he's been doing some hitting, per MLB.com.

Stanton has been on the injured list since late April due to a right calf strain. The slugger doesn't seem to be close to a return given his continued inability to run, and the Yankees haven't provided a timeline for his recovery. Jasson Dominguez (shoulder) was originally the recipient of a big-league opportunity in Stanton's absence, but he's now on the IL, so Spencer Jones has since been called up for his first major-league stint.

  • Christian Roa SP | BAL

Orioles' Christian Roa: Claimed by Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Roa off waivers from the Twins on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Roa was designated for assignment by Minnesota on Wednesday but will remain on a 40-man roster as he heads to Baltimore. Prior to his brief time in the Twins organization, the right-hander made seven appearances for the Astros earlier this season and surrendered five earned runs with a 6:7 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

  • Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Suffers bruised hand

The Red Sox announced that Contreras was removed from Sunday's game against the Rays due to a bruised right hand, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Andruw Monasterio covered first base to begin the second inning after Contreras was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first. While preliminary X-rays have ruled out any sort of fracture, he could be subject to further tests. Contreras will benefit from a team off day Monday before the Red Sox begin a three-game series with the Phillies on Tuesday.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Resting up Sunday

Wells is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Wells will receive a breather after he started behind the plate in the first two games of the series. J.C. Escarra will handle catching duties for the Yankees.

  • Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Lifted after hit by pitch

Contreras was removed from Sunday's game against the Rays after being hit in the left hand/wrist area by a pitch during the first inning, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

After getting plunked by a 94.2 mph sinker, Contreras was able to take his base, but the Red Sox pulled him from the contest to begin the second inning. Contreras will presumably undergo X-rays to determine whether he's dealing with any structural damage.

  • Leonardo Rivas SS | SEA

Mariners' Leo Rivas: Returning to backup role

Rivas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Rivas will be on the bench for the second time in three games and appears set for a utility role after Brendan Donovan's recent return from the injured list. While Donovan was on the shelf, Rivas served as the Mariners' primary third baseman but provided little fantasy value in that capacity. For the season, he's batting just .141 with no home runs, two stolen bases, seven RBI and eight runs over 112 plate appearances.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Moving to cleanup spot

Raleigh will start at catcher and bat fourth in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Raleigh had batted exclusively out of the two hole this season, but he'll be dropped a couple spots in the order while in a prolonged lull at the dish. The 29-year-old has gone hitless in his last seven starts, going 0-for-29 with a 2:13 BB:K during that stretch to bring his slash line down to .164/.244/.366 for the season. The Mariners are hoping the move into the cleanup spot will help invigorate Raleigh's dormant bat.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Surgery on tap Monday

Correa is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday in Houston to repair the tendon in his left ankle, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The Astros could provide an official timeline for Correa's return once surgery is completed, but the veteran infielder has already been ruled out for the season and is expected to require around 6-to-8 months to fully recover from the procedure. Correa slashed .279/.369/.418 with three home runs, one stolen base, 16 RBI and 22 runs over 141 plate appearances in 32 games before suffering the ankle injury in batting practice prior to Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers.

  • Astros' Christian Vazquez: Heading to bench Sunday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Cesar Salazar will handle catching duties in the series finale. Vazquez is expected to see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate while Yainer Diaz (oblique) remains on the shelf, but he typically bats near the bottom of the lineup and likely won't carry much fantasy value outside of deep two-catcher mixed leagues or AL-only formats.
