Williams didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Royals. He went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk, striking out two.

Williams was electric in spring training, pitching to a 2.08 ERA over 17.1 innings with 26 strikeouts and just four walks, but he was not as crisp in his first regular-season start to open the year. He pitched to contact versus Kansas City and recorded an uninspiring two strikeouts while being pulled after just 74 pitches. The early hook prevented a chance at a quality start, and he could not nab a win either as his bullpen let him down in the 4-3 loss. He is tentatively lined up for a favorable matchup next week on the road against the Angels.

Lugo did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. He allowed three runs, four hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four.

Lugo ran into trouble to open the second inning, allowing three consecutive hits to open the frame as Cleveland took a 1-0 lead. His control faded in the third inning with back-to-back walks to Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez, with Kwan coming around to score on a sacrifice fly. After a clean fourth, Lugo allowed a homer to Kwan in the fifth inning, which gave the Guardians a 3-1 lead. He avoided the loss thanks to his offense, which rallied in the middle stages of the game to secure the 4-3 win. Lugo was outstanding a year ago with a 3.00 ERA over 206.2 regular-season innings, so this could be just a bump in the road after he gave up more than two runs only once over his last eight regular/postseason starts in 2024. He will look for his first win in 2025 when he tentatively goes against Baltimore next week.

Estevez (save) threw one inning Saturday against the Guardians, earning the save and striking out one batter.

Nursing a one-run lead, Estevez walked Kyle Manzardo on five pitches to open the bottom of the ninth inning, but he settled down to retire the next three batters he faced, preserving the 4-3 Kansas City win. Estevez should see the bulk of the save chances for the Royals, though setup man Lucas Erceg is also a quality candidate for saves.

India went 2-for-3 with a run and walk in a 4-3 win over Cleveland on Saturday.

India was brought aboard over the winter to provide some strong on-base skills for the Kansas City lineup and holds a career on-base percentage of .352. He scored his team's first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when he came across home after a Salvador Perez single. India figures to be the everyday leadoff hitter for Kansas City and has played both third base and left field in the early going. By trade, he is a second baseman as well. His positional versatility should come in handy as the season progresses.

Kwan went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and an additional run scored in a 4-3 loss to Kansas City on Saturday.

Kwan found his power stroke in 2024, hitting 14 homers -- more than his 2022 and 2023 seasons combined. He's off to a good start in that department in 2025. The left fielder is 3-for-7 in the first two games of the year with three runs, one homer, one double and no strikeouts. Hitting at the top of the Cleveland lineup should allow Kwan to score plenty of runs once again.

Volpe went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run and two walks in a 20-9 thrashing of Milwaukee on Saturday.

Volpe played his part on a historic day for the Yankees, smashing one of the team's franchise-record nine homers with a three-run blast to left field in the second inning. The 23-year-old has gone deep in each of New York's first two games of the campaign after hitting a modest 12 homers over 688 plate appearances last season. In fact, both of Volpe's hits so far have left the yard.

Scherzer was removed from his start Saturday against the Orioles due to right lat soreness, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scherzer had been hoping to reach around 80 pitches during his first start of the season, but he was forced out of the game after just 45 pitches across three innings of two-run ball. Although the team attributed his removal to a lat issue, the veteran righty said after the game that "this is 100 percent related to the thumb," per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. Scherzer's thumb has been an issue since spring training, and he added that he was in "imminent danger" of doing more damage to it if he were to go back out for the fourth inning. Scherzer and the team will likely want to make sure his thumb and lat are no longer issues before he makes his next start, which could mean a trip to the injured list is coming.

Wells went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 20-9 romp over the Brewers.

With a left-hander starting on the mound for Milwaukee, Wells batted sixth in the lineup rather than occupying the leadoff spot as he did on Opening Day. However, that didn't affect his performance at the plate, as the third-year catcher went deep in the first inning for one of four Yankees long balls in the frame and one of a franchise-record nine hit by the team overall in the win. After an eye-opening six-homer performance during Grapefruit League play, Wells has continued to impress at the start of the regular season, going deep in each of his first two contests.

Peraza went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run Saturday in a 20-9 win against the Brewers.

Peraza didn't start the contest, but he was given a chance to pinch hit with New York up 18-6 in the seventh inning. The 24-year-old took advantage of the opportunity, drilling a two-run blast to left field. The long ball was the Yankees' ninth of the game, establishing a franchise record.

Chisholm went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run in Saturday's 20-9 victory versus Milwaukee.

The Yankees set a franchise record with nine home runs in the rout, and Chisholm got in on the action with a 442-foot solo blast in the third inning. The veteran slugger slotted into the cleanup spot but mostly came up with the bases empty since Aaron Judge blasted three homers one spot ahead of him in the lineup. Chisholm's big performance followed an 0-for-3, two-strikeout performance in New York's season opener.
