The Tigers announced Tuesday that Vierling (shoulder) has been cleared to start a return-to-play throwing program, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Vierling had already been taking live batting practice and getting in some defensive work, but his ability to resume throwing represents an important step in his recovery from a right shoulder strain, an injury he suffered early in spring training. The Tigers aren't yet offering up a target date for Vierling to make his season debut, but he's likely to gradually increase his throwing distance and volume over the next week or two before the team maps out a minor-league rehab assignment for him. With that in mind a late-April or early-May return from the 10-day injured list may be a best-case scenario for Vierling, who should handle a near-everyday role either in the outfield or at third base once he's deemed fully healthy.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Bellinger is out of the lineup Tuesday due to food poisoning, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Bellinger was was "throwing up all night," per Boone, so Trent Grisham is getting another start in the Yankees' outfield against the Tigers. While he could be ready to play as soon as Wednesday, it wouldn't be a surprise if Bellinger is held out until Friday following the team's off day Thursday.

The White Sox reinstated Gilbert (knee) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Chicago sent left-hander Brandon Eisert to Triple-A Charlotte to make room on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Gilbert. The left-hander opened the season on the shelf due to left knee inflammation, but he checked out healthy after making two rehab appearances for Charlotte last week. He'll operate as a multi-inning option in relief.

The Tigers placed Margot on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to left knee inflammation.

Margot sustained the knee injury in Monday's 6-2 win over the Yankees and was diagnosed with inflammation after undergoing further evaluation. The 30-year-old had been limited to a short-side platoon role this season, but his move to the IL represents another blow to the Tigers' outfield depth. Brewer Hicklen was called up from Triple-A Toledo to replace Margot on the active roster.

The Tigers recalled Hicklen from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Hicklen will provide the Tigers with an extra right-handed bat off the bench with Detroit placing Manuel Margot (knee) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Hicklen has logged just nine total plate appearances in the majors but was a standout performer at the Triple-A level for the Brewers' affiliate in Nashville in 2024, slashing .246/.363/.470 with 22 home runs and 44 stolen bases in 499 plate appearances. Hicklen could serve as a short-side platoon outfielder while he's up with the Tigers.

Double-A Wichita placed Culpepper on the 7-day injured list as he's had a hard time ramping up this spring, Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline reports.

Culpepper had a forearm strain last summer that limited him to 58.1 total innings across High-A and Double-A. There isn't an official injury diagnosis this time around, but it doesn't sound like his 2025 debut is imminent.

The Rays recalled Montes from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Montes slashed .184/.244/.316during a cup of coffee with the Rockies in 2023 and was added to the Rays' 40-man roster in late March. He'll serve as a reserve infielder for Tampa Bay.

The Rays placed DeLuca on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right shoulder strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It's not clear when or how DeLuca was injured, but he didn't start the Rays' most recent game Sunday in Texas, appearing as a pinch runner. He will be eligible to return April 17, but given the nature of the injury, there's a good chance he'll require more downtime than that timeframe.

The Astros are expected to recall Contreras from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Contreras was sent to the minors Monday, but he's set to rejoin the big club a day later with Spencer Arrighetti (thumb) headed to the injured list. The Astros will make the transaction official shortly before Tuesday's game against the Mariners. The right-handed Contreras has posted an 8.44 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 5.1 innings this season and will operate in low-leverage spots.

Cabrera is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Even though Cabrera and Oswald Peraza are both right-handed hitters, the two appear to have settled into a de facto platoon at third base. All seven of Cabrera's starts have come against right-handed pitching, and all four of his absences from the lineup have come when the Yankees have faced left-handers. Peraza will make his third straight start against a southpaw Tuesday as the Tigers send ace Tarik Skubal to the hill.
