The Royals placed Avila on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right forearm tightness.

Avila's move to the IL comes after he was blitzed for six earned runs on four hits and three walks over 2.2 innings in a 12-6 loss in Colorado on Saturday. Pitching at high altitude didn't help, but the forearm injury may have played a part in his struggles after he had been developing into a trustworthy fantasy option. Over his preceding seven starts, Avila went 4-0 with a 3.82 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 31:17 K:BB in 35.1 innings. The Royals will send the righty for further testing before providing a timeline for his return, though even mild forearm injuries often entail a recovery period of more than 15 days.

Lukes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

The left-handed hitter will stay on the bench for a second straight game while the Cardinals send another lefty to the bump in Matthew Liberatore. Myles Straw will pick up a start in right field in place of Lukes, who is slashing just .227/.306/.295 with no home runs, stolen bases or RBI and just five runs in 14 games since the All-Star break.

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

The left-handed-hitting Sanchez started in left field and went 0-for-2 in his return from the injured list in Friday's 3-1 win, but he'll end up sitting on the bench for the final two contests of the series while the Cardinals have sent lefty starters to the bump for both games. George Springer will spell Sanchez in left field Sunday.

The White Sox recalled Davitt from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

The right-hander was up for his first taste of the majors in April and was sent back to Charlotte after firing a scoreless frame in his big-league debut. Davitt will now get another look in the majors despite having a 6.22 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 64:25 K:BB across 59.1 Triple-A innings It'll likely be a short stay on the 26-man active roster since trade-acquisition Luis Castillo should officially join the team soon.

White Sox manager Will Venable said Sunday that Fedde will be moved to the bullpen following the team's acquisition of right-hander Luis Castillo, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

Rather than expanding the rotation to six or demoting struggling rookie Noah Schultz to the minors, the White Sox will instead shift Fedde to a long relief role. Fedde had been part of the rotation all season but 10 of his 22 appearances have come as a bulk reliever, so it likely won't be a big adjustment. The veteran righty has gone 6-6 with a 4.13 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 74:36 K:BB in 102.1 innings this season.

The White Sox scratched Montgomery from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays due to a superficial skin infection on his right ankle, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

The skin condition doesn't seem to be a major concern for Montgomery, but he'll effectively get two days to recover thanks to a team off day Monday. Everson Pereira will draw the start in right field in place of Montgomery, who is slashing .255/.339/.364 with zero home runs, one stolen base, eight RBI and seven runs in 15 games since the All-Star break.

The team has yet to provide word whether Montgomery's removal from the lineup was the result of an injury or illness. The rookie may simply be getting a day off, as he's started every game dating back to July 8, going 1-for-15 with a 1:5 BB:K over his last four contests. Everson Pereira will fill in for Montgomery in right field and bat eighth.

Martinez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Martinez started the first two contests of the series and ended a seven-game hitless stretch by going 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two strikeouts Saturday. Chase DeLauter will man right field while Jose Ramirez serves as the designated hitter, which opens up third base for Gabriel Arias.

Mayo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

He'll take a seat against right-hander Zack Wheeler, ending a streak of five straight starts at either third base or DH. The Orioles faced three right-handers and two lefties during that stretch, as Mayo went 4-for-16 with one home run, two walks, five RBI and four runs, but also six strikeouts. Christian Encarnacion-Strand will receive the nod at third base Sunday, but Mayo still looks like he could be in store for fairly steady playing time so long as he's performing adequately at the plate.

The Guardians optioned Dion to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.

The left-hander spent most of June and July in the big leagues but has been shuttled between Triple-A and the majors a few times since the All-Star break. In his first taste of MLB this season, Dion has a 4.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB across 19.2 innings. Trade acquisition Craig Yoho will fill the vacated roster spot for Cleveland.
