  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Launches 29th homer

Buxton went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Padres.

Buxton opened the scoring in the third inning with a homer off Kyle Hart, his 29th of the season to mark a new career high. It's the fourth homer in four games for Buxton, who's gone 6-for-17 (.353) in that span. Buxton has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the Twins -- he boosted his slash line to .271/.333/.550 with 70 RBI, 81 runs scored and 21 stolen bases across 442 plate appearances.

  • Taylor Ward LF | LAA

Angels' Taylor Ward: Departs after scary collison

Ward was removed from Sunday's game against the Astros with an apparent head injury after colliding with the outfield wall, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. He went 0-for-1 with three walks prior to exiting the game.

Ward ran face first into the corner section of the Crawford Boxes in left field and was bleeding while being tended to by training staff from both clubs. The outfielder was able to stand on his own before a cart came out for him, and he should be considered day-to-day as he's evaluated.

  • Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Up to 27 saves

Chapman earned the save Sunday against the Pirates, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Fresh off signing a one-year contract extension with the Red Sox, Chapman kept rolling Sunday to lock down his 27th save this season. The lefty has held opponents without a hit in his last 12.2 innings, striking out 14 while issuing four walks in that span. Chapman's ERA is down to 1.02 with a 0.66 WHIP and 76 strikeouts across 53 innings this year.

  • Lucas Giolito SP | BOS

Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Grabs 10th win

Giolito (10-2) earned the win Sunday over the Pirates, allowing a run on three hits and five walks over six innings. He struck out six.

While Giolito's five walks were the second-most he's issued in a start this season, the right-hander was able to minimize the damage en route to his 10th victory. Giolito has gone 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA in his last seven outings (43.2 innings), lowering his ERA to 3.38 on the season with a 1.23 WHIP and 105:43 K:BB across 22 starts (125.1 innings). He's currently slated to face the Diamondbacks on the road his next time out.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Athletics' Luis Severino: Making return Tuesday

Severino (oblique) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Cardinals in St. Louis, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.

The right-hander has been sidelined over three weeks due to an oblique strain, and he'll rejoin the Athletics rotation without a rehab assignment. Following the layoff, Severino could face some workload limitations in his first couple outings back in the majors. The right-hander was in strong form prior to the injury with a 3.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB over his last four starts.

  • Joe Ryan SP | MIN

Twins' Joe Ryan: Rebounds to blank Padres

Ryan (13-7) earned the win Sunday over San Diego, allowing five hits and a walk across seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

After he was tagged for 11 runs over nine innings in his previous two starts, Ryan rebounded with a dominant outing Sunday, striking out at least eight batters for the eighth time this season. Ryan lowered his ERA to 3.08 on the season with a 0.97 WHIP and 174:30 K:BB across 155 innings. He'll look to keep rolling his next time out, tentatively scheduled for next week in Kansas City.

  • Tyler Wells SP | BAL

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Set for season debut Tuesday

Wells (elbow) is expected to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Tuesday in San Diego, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The right-hander has spent the season rehabbing from the UCL revision and brace augmentation surgery he underwent in June 2024, but he's ready to make his 2025 debut Tuesday. Wells built up to 6.1 innings Wednesday with Triple-A Norfolk during the final outing of his rehab assignment, but the Orioles are still likely to be cautious with his workload down the stretch.

  • Yimi Garcia RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Moves to 60-day IL

The Blue Jays transferred Garcia (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

The Blue Jays announced Friday that Garcia would require season-ending surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow, so it was only a matter of time before he was shifted to the 60-day IL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. The right-hander finished the 2025 campaign with a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB over 21 innings. Garcia is owed $7.5 million for 2026 and is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training.

  • Coby Mayo 1B | BAL

Orioles' Coby Mayo: Bowing out of lineup

Mayo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

With Ryan Mountcastle drawing a start at first base and Gunnar Henderson getting a day off from playing shortstop but remaining in the lineup as the Orioles' designated hitter, Mayo will be the odd man out of the lineup. Mayo had started in each of Baltimore's last six games and went just 2-for-23, bringing his batting average down to .184 for the season.

  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Sitting after 28 straight starts

Hernaiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Hernaiz has been displaced at shortstop and second base recently with Jacob Wilson returning from the injured list and Zack Gelof getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento, but the 24-year-old has been able to retain a regular role in the infield by shifting over to the hot corner. After making his last two starts at third base, Hernaiz will give way to Brett Harris on Sunday. Hernaiz will hit the bench after he had been included in the starting nine in each of the last 28 games, during which he slashed .242/.307/.354 with two home runs, one stolen base, 12 RBI and 10 runs. While his playing time appears to be secure for now, Hernaiz could end up shifting to more of a utility role if Max Muncy (hand) is able to make it back from the injured list at some point in September.
