Lugo was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

He has slowly lost his grip on regular playing time, and the addition of Chris Taylor has further crowded the Angels' outfield. Lugo will benefit from more regular playing time at Salt Lake and look to get back on track after going hitless in his last 14 at-bats prior to being demoted.

The Tigers plan to select Smith's contract Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Smith has transitioned from a starting to a relief role this season and found significant success. He was just promoted to Triple-A Toledo on May 19, but he has picked up a save and struck out five across 2.1 innings at the level. Smith figures to begin his big-league career in low-leverage spots, but he could move up the bullpen hierarchy if he performs well.

Castro is out for the season due to a right knee injury, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Castro injured his right knee as he slipped while trying to cover first base against the Mets on Wednesday. He had to be removed from the game as he was helped off the field by trainers, but the injury was initially tabbed as soreness. The specifics of the injury are yet to be disclosed, but he won't retake the mound for the White Sox in 2025.

Burr (shoulder) received a cortisone injection Thursday to help treat his right shoulder inflammation, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Burr was pulled off his rehab assignment Monday after experiencing a setback in his recovery, and he'll now be shut down from throwing for a few days following the injection. A clearer return timeline for the right-hander may emerge once he gets the green light to start building back up.

Bichette (back) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff Thursday against the Athletics.

Bichette appeared as a pinch hitter Wednesday after missing out on the starting lineup due to back tightness and hit a two-run home run, providing the game's only offense in a 2-0 Toronto victory. The 27-year-old will return to the leadoff spot Thursday and aim to build off his round-tripper after going 1-for-19 in his previous five starts.

The Mariners designated Hunt for assignment Thursday.

Hunt was designated for assignment Thursday in order to create room on the 40-man roster as the Mariners selected Casey Lawrence from Triple-A Tacoma. Hunt has hit for an OPS of .678 in Triple-A during 2025 and has yet to crack an active major league roster since starting his MiLB career in 2017. In a corresponding move, Casey Lawrence was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

Jansen isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

After going 1-for-6 with a two-run home run during the Rays' previous series against Minnesota, Jansen will grab a seat on the bench Thursday. His absence will allow Matt Thaiss to make his Rays debut behind the plate while batting ninth.

The Mariners optioned Castano to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.

Castano joined the Mariners' bullpen after being called up May 23 and made his MLB debut May 28. It was the lone appearance he made as he allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks across three innings of relief. As a corresponding move Thursday, Casey Lawrence was selected from Triple-A Tacoma

Lawrence was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on May 23 after losing his roster spot two days prior. He did not make any appearances for Tacoma after being sent down as his last appearance was May 20 for the Mariners against the White Sox. In that outing, the 37-year-old tossed five innings in which he allowed an earned run on six hits. In other moves Thursday, Seattle optioned Blas Castano to Triple-A Tacoma and designated Blake Hunt for assignment.

The Guardians transferred Lively (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Lively has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery, so his move to the 60-day IL was an eventuality. Matt Krook was claimed off waivers from the A's on Thursday and added to the roster in a corresponding move.
