  • Kevin Gausman SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Snags ninth win

Gausman (9-10) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over eight innings in a 7-1 victory over the Yankees. He struck out five.

A solo shot by Giancarlo Stanton in the second inning was the only blemish on Gausman's line as he fired 105 pitches (68 strikes) en route to his 14th quality start of the season. The veteran righty has given up two runs or fewer in five of his last six outings, posting a 2.48 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 35:7 K:BB through 40 innings over that stretch to help lead the Blue Jays' playoff push. Gausman lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Astros.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Walks it off Friday

Basallo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 win over the Dodgers.

The rookie swatted his second career homer and his first at home in Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and he made it count -- with the score tied 1-1 and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Basallo crushed a Tanner Scott fastball 433 feet over the fence in right-center field. The 21-year-old is still adjusting to big-league pitching, but his upside is undeniable, and through his first 15 games with the O's he's slashing .204/.271/.389 with four doubles, nine RBI and a 4:13 BB:K.

  • Dean Kremer SP | BAL

Orioles' Dean Kremer: Exits start with forearm issue

Kremer left Friday's start against the Dodgers after three innings due to forearm discomfort, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. The right-hander had struck out four and walked one over three scoreless, no-hit innings before exiting.

The Orioles went on to win the game on a walk-off homer by Samuel Basallo, but Kremer's injury overshadowed the rookie's heroics. Per Jake Rill of MLB.com, interim manager Tony Mansolino indicated after the game that Kremer believes the issue is a minor one, but the team will have a better idea whether he'll be able to make his next start after getting imaging done Saturday. Kremer had coughed up 14 runs (13 earned) in eight innings over his prior two outings, so he may have been attempting to pitch through the discomfort since late August.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Getting breather Saturday

Stanton isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Stanton will get a chance to catch his breath Saturday after going 2-for-4 with a home run in Friday's series opener. While he rests, Aaron Judge will serve as the Yankees' designated hitter, with Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger in the outfield.

  • White Sox's Dominic Fletcher: Two hits in 2025 debut

Fletcher went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored Friday against the Tigers.

Fletcher had his contract selected Friday, and he hit ninth and started in center field the same day. He doubled in both of his first two at-bats and came around to score on each occasion. It remains to be seen how consistent his at-bats will be, as Michael Taylor, Brooks Baldwin and Will Robertson are also capable of manning center field.

  • Hunter Bigge RP | TB

Rays' Hunter Bigge: First bullpen scheduled

Bigge (lat) will throw a bullpen session Sept. 9, MLB.com reports.

Bigge is recovering from both a lat injury and facial fractures that he suffered in mid-June. He began playing catch in mid-August, so it's unclear if he'll be able to ramp up in time to return in 2025.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Tallies 18th homer

Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Tigers.

Benintendi delivered his 18th home run of the season in the sixth inning to put the White Sox up one run. He's been very productive across his last 12 games, collecting 18 hits in 47 at-bats while recording four home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored. Benintendi's .737 OPS for the season is in line to be his highest mark since 2022.

  • Steven Kwan LF | CLE

Guardians' Steven Kwan: Swipes two bags in win

Kwan went 2-for-4 with a walk, two steals, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Rays.

Kwan started and finished the win. His two-run single in the second inning plated the Guardians' first two runs, and he scored the final run in the sixth. The two stolen bases upped his season total to 16 (134 games) and were his first successful attempts in 16 contests. His career high in thefts is 21, which he established in 2023 over 158 games.

  • Lane Thomas CF | CLE

Guardians' Lane Thomas: Plays full game as DH

Thomas (foot) served as the designated hitter, going 0-for-3 for Double-A Akron on Friday. He was also hit by a pitch.

Thomas, who began a rehab assignment with Akron earlier this week, played a full nine innings for the first time. The Guardians likely want to see him in the field for a full game before entertaining thoughts of activating him. Thomas has been sidelined since July 6 with plantar fasciitis.

  • Ezequiel Duran SS | TEX

Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Moves to right field

Duran started in right field and went 3-for-5 in Friday's 4-3 win over the Astros.

Duran filled in for the injured Adolis Garcia (quadriceps) in right field. Since Garcia sustained the injury earlier this week, the Rangers have used Alejandro Osuna in right field against right-handers and Duran against a lefty. Duran's moved around the diamond for injured teammates the last few weeks; he's started games at first base, second base, shortstop and now right field.
