  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Angels' Kenley Jansen: Rebounds with save Wednesday

Jansen notched a save against the Dodgers on Wednesday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Jansen gave up a tiebreaking solo homer to Shohei Ohtani in the ninth frame Tuesday, breaking a 20-appearance scoreless streak. The veteran closer was right back on the mound against his former club Wednesday, this time with the task of protecting a one-run, ninth-inning lead. Jansen came through, retiring Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith on a combined 10 pitches. Jansen has now converted 23 of 24 save opportunities on the campaign, putting him on track for his highest save conversion rate since he went a remarkable 41-for-42 in save chances with the Dodgers in 2017.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Angels' Kyle Hendricks: Lasts just 3.1 frames Wednesday

Hendricks allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Hendricks fell behind quickly, giving up a leadoff triple to Shohei Ohtani followed by a run-scoring single by Mookie Betts. Two batters later, Will Smith got to the veteran righty for a two-run homer, setting the tone for the hurler's poor night. Hendricks did manage to rebound with a scoreless second and third frame, but he was pulled with one out in the fourth after loading the bases on two walks and an infield single, and two of the three baserunners he turned over to the bullpen came around to score. This was Hendricks' second-shortest outing of the season, trailing just his seven-run, three-inning performance against Minnesota in late April. Though he's managed to hang onto a spot in the Angels' rotation, Hendricks has submitted a poor 4.87 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through 23 starts spanning 120 innings on the campaign.

  • Joe Ryan SP | MIN

Twins' Joe Ryan: Reliable work continues in win

Ryan (12-5) earned the win Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Ryan has been a model of consistency for the Twins in 2025, having now spun at least five innings in each of his first 24 starts of the year. The All-Star right-hander has yielded greater than two runs on just six occasions all season, and he's fanned at least five 19 times on the campaign. Ryan will tote a stellar 2.72 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 153:27 K:BB through 139 frames into his next scheduled outing, which lines up to come against the Athletics at home.

  • Cam Schlittler SP | NYY

Yankees' Cam Schlittler: Six Ks in five impressive innings

Schlittler didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Twins, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out six.

Schlittler worked at least five innings for a third straight start and for the fifth time this season among six outings. The two hits allowed established a season low for the rookie right-hander, who also conceded a season-best one run. Schlittler has a useful 3.94 ERA and 30:14 K:BB over 29.2 innings, but his 1.52 WHIP is cause for concern heading into his next scheduled start in Tampa Bay against the Rays.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Pops 13th homer

Pena went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Pena led off the home half of the first inning with his 13th home run of the season and second since he was activated from the injured list at the start of August. In 11 games since his return, he's also chipped in five RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases while hitting .289.

  • Justin Topa RP | MIN

Twins' Justin Topa: Notches six-out save

Topa recorded the save in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Yankees, striking out one and allowing one hit and no walks in two scoreless innings.

Topa finished off the Yankees to net his second save of the season, working multiple frames for the first time since July 26 versus the Nationals. The 34-year-old right-hander is operating in tandem with Cole Sands for Minnesota's closer gig after the Twins shipped out Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax at the trade deadline, though Sands has given up five runs over six appearances this month. Topa, on the other hand, has pitched seven shutout frames to open August, improving his ERA to 3.55 and his WHIP to 1.30 to go with a 44:13 K:BB for the year.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Battling knee issue

Manager Aaron Boone said after Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota that Goldschmidt was unavailable off the bench due to a right knee injury, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

The Yankees are still in the process of evaluating Goldschmidt's injury, but the Yankees believe that the veteran first baseman is dealing with a low-grade sprain, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. Boone suggested that a stint on the injured list could be in the offing for Goldschmidt, which would likely result in Ben Rice settling in as New York's everyday first baseman and Austin Wells regaining the primary catcher role.

  • Keegan Akin RP | BAL

Orioles' Keegan Akin: Earns win despite blown save

Akin (4-2) earned the win despite blowing a save against the Mariners on Wednesday, retiring both batters he faced while allowing one inherited run to score in the ninth inning.

The southpaw was summoned to face lefty Dominic Canzone with one out and the tying run on third in the ninth after Yennier Cano struggled to start the frame. Akin recorded two outs on just two pitches but was ultimately charged with a blown save when Canzone tied the game on a sacrifice fly. While Cano's usage to start the inning suggests interim manager Tony Mansolino is willing to play late-game matchups, Akin owns a 3.50 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 43:23 K:BB across 43.2 innings and should remain the favorite for save opportunities with Felix Bautista (shoulder) sidelined for the remainder of the season.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Homers, plates three in win

Diaz went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over Boston.

Diaz amassed at least three RBI for the second time this month and the seventh time this season. The backstop now has four multi-hit games in August, and he's been a steady bat in the middle of Houston's order throughout 2025. Since the beginning of July, Diaz is batting a strong .281 with seven homers, seven doubles and 19 RBI covering 128 at-bats (34 games).

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Homers in win

Mountcastle went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Mariners.

Mountcastle tied the game with a 394-foot leadoff blast in the seventh inning and recorded his first multi-hit effort since returning from the injured list Friday. Since being reinstated, he's gone 4-for-17 with two homers and a 2:5 BB:K while starting in five consecutive games. On the season, the 28-year-old is slashing .245/.283/.368 with four homers, 17 RBI, 21 runs scored, and one stolen base across 219 plate appearances.
