  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Blue Jays' Eric Lauer: Cruises to eighth win

Lauer (8-2) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks over five innings in a 14-2 rout of the Rangers. He struck out four.

The southpaw tossed an inefficient 102 pitches (63 strikes), but Lauer lasted long enough to get the win and benefit from massive run support by the Blue Jays. He remains undefeated since the All-Star break, going 4-0 over his last six starts with a 2.73 ERA, but Lauer's control may be eroding -- he has an 8:7 K:BB in eight innings over his last two outings. With Shane Bieber (elbow) potentially set to make his Toronto debut next weekend, it's not clear whether Lauer will remain in the rotation, or move into a long-relief role despite his success as a starter.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Rangers' Patrick Corbin: Jolted by Jays

Corbin (6-9) took the loss Saturday, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and two walks over 2.1 innings in a 14-2 rout at the hands of the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

The veteran lefty held Toronto off the board in the first inning, but a six-run second by the home squad quickly took the suspense out of the game. It was Corbin's shortest and worst start of the season, and while it was the first time since June 23 he's been tagged for more than three earned runs, he appears to be fading -- he's failed to last five innings in three straight trips to the mound. Corbin will take a 4.45 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 99:40 K:BB through 119.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Kansas City.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rangers' Jon Gray: Goes unclaimed, still with Rangers

Gray went unclaimed after the Rangers placed him on outright waivers Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

The Rangers were hoping another team would claim Gray and pay him the approximately $3 million he is owed over the rest of the season. Gray is a free agent after the season and is working as a long reliever. The Rangers are about to play 13 games in 13 days, so they may keep Gray around rather than pay him to go home, but they could also place him on waivers again before the Aug. 31 deadline for setting postseason rosters.

  • Royals' Carter Jensen: Back from minor wrist injury

Jensen (wrist) was back in the lineup for Triple-A Omaha on Saturday and hit a two-run home run.

He suffered a right wrist contusion earlier this week but only missed a couple days. Jensen, 22, is slashing .316/.388/.571 with 12 home runs, eight steals and a 26.5 percent strikeout rate over his last 62 games split across Double-A and Triple-A.

  • Joshua Lowe LF | LAA

Rays' Josh Lowe: Day-to-day with oblique tightness

Lowe was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Giants with right oblique tightness and is day-to-day, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe was a late scratch Saturday, with Everson Pereira getting added to the lineup. Oblique strains typically result in an injured-list stint, but for now the team is labeling Lowe as day-to-day with tightness. The Rays are scheduled to face righty Logan Webb on Sunday.

  • Joshua Lowe LF | LAA

Rays' Josh Lowe: Late scratch Saturday

Lowe has been removed from the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game versus San Francisco, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe was originally penciled in to play right field and bat sixth, but he was scratched about an hour before the start of the contest. It's not immediately clear if his removal was due to an injury or for another reason. In Lowe's stead, Jake Mangum is sliding over from center field to right while Everson Pereira is getting a start in center.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Departs Saturday due to illness

Pasquantino's early exit from Saturday's game against the White Sox was due to a heat-related illness.

Pasquantino was pulled from the game following his first-inning at-bat, which ended with a strikeout. Though being removed from a game early is very rarely a positive occurrence, the reason for his exit gives reason to hope that he's not dealing with anything serious. It's unclear if Pasquantino will be able to return to the lineup Sunday for the series finale, however.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Exits with injury Saturday

Pasquantino was pulled from Saturday's game against the White Sox after one inning due to an apparent injury, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.

Pasquantino appeared to show discomfort after taking a swing in his lone plate appearance. He remained in the contest to finish the at-bat but was replaced by Nick Loftin -- who had started in left field -- at first base for the top of the second inning. Meanwhile, John Rave entered the contest in left. Pasquantino figures to undergo further evaluation, the results of which should provide more details about what he's dealing with, along with a potential return timeframe.

  • Denzel Clarke OF | ATH

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Suffers setback during rehab

Clarke (hip) had a setback Friday in the midst of a minor-league rehab assignment and is returning to the Athletics to be evaluated, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Clarke went 1-for-2 in his first rehab game Friday, but he was pulled before getting a third plate appearance. It was thought that the rookie outfielder was on the verge of being activated off the injured list, but it now seems he'll be out at least a bit longer. A clearer picture of Clarke's timeline moving forward could emerge after he is evaluated.

  • Tyler Wells RP | BAL

Orioles' Tyler Wells: Up to 77 pitches in rehab start

Wells (elbow) made his third rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.

Friday marked Wells' fourth rehab minor-league outing overall as he makes his way back from last summer's UCL surgery. He was able to stretch out to 77 pitches in the start, but Wells is expected to make one or two more rehab appearances before being reinstated from the injured list, per MLB.com. Though Wells is getting built up as a starter, it's unclear if the Orioles will have a rotation spot available for him once he returns, so he could be a candidate to pitch in long relief.
