  • David Hamilton 3B | MIL

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Recall made official

The Red Sox recalled Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Hamilton is drawing the start at second base Thursday versus the Yankees and could see semi-regular action there if the Red Sox opt to use Ceddanne Rafaela as a full-time outfielder following the injury to Wilyer Abreu (calf). The speedy Hamilton has slashed only .174/.227/.265 in 69 games with the big club this season, though he does have 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts.

  • Richard Fitts SP | STL

Red Sox's Richard Fitts: Recalled from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Fitts from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Fitts has been used exclusively as a starter in the majors and minors this season, but the Red Sox will shift him to relief to see if his stuff might play up in shorter stints. The righty holds a 4.83 ERA and 34:13 K:BB over 41 innings during his time with Boston this season.

  • Allan Winans SP | NYY

Yankees' Allan Winans: Optioned to Triple-A

The Yankees optioned Winans to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Winans' stint with the Yankees lasted only one day without making an appearance. He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Paul Blackburn, who inked a major-league contract Thursday.

  • Paul Blackburn RP | NYY

Yankees' Paul Blackburn: Links up with Yankees

The Yankees signed Blackburn to a one-year contract Thursday.

Blackburn was recently cut loose by the crosstown Mets but has quickly landed on his feet with a new major-league deal. He has struggled during his time at the big-league level this season, posting a 6.85 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB in 23.2 innings. Blackburn will presumably work in long relief for now and offers the flexibility to enter the rotation, should a need arise.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Exits game with injury

Semien was removed from Thursday's game in Kansas City during the third inning due to an undisclosed injury, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Semien recently dealt with a wrist issue, but it's not clear whether that's the injury that forced his exit Thursday. The Rangers should have more information on the second baseman soon.

  • Trey Gibson SP | BAL

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Climbs three levels

Gibson has a 3.12 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB in 8.2 innings across two starts since getting promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on Aug. 12.

Gibson has a 2.34 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 77 innings over his last 16 starts across Double-A and Triple-A. The 23-year-old righty has always had success missing bats and generating groundballs, but this year Gibson's control took a step forward. He had never logged a walk rate below 9.7 percent coming into the year, but in 2025 he's had a walk rate below 9.0 percent at all three stops and holds an 8.0 percent walk rate on the season. While Gibson isn't on the 40-man roster, he could make his big-league debut either late this year or early in 2026.

  • Red Sox's Jhostynxon Garcia: Heading to majors

The Red Sox will recall Garcia from Triple-A Worcester prior to Thursday's game versus the Yankees, Katie Morrison-O'Day of MassLive.com reports.

Wilyer Abreu (calf) is heading to the 10-day injured list, and his roster spot will be absorbed by Garcia. The 22-year-old Garcia has slashed .289/.363/.512 with 20 home runs and six stolen bases between Double-A Portland and Worcester this season. Boston's outfield is pretty full already even with Abreu out, but the right-handed-hitting Garcia should at least get his fair share of opportunities against left-handed pitching.

  • Wilyer Abreu RF | BOS

Red Sox's Wilyer Abreu: Will be placed on 10-day IL

The Red Sox will place Abreu (calf) on the 10-day injured list prior to Thursday's game against the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Abreu tweaked his right calf in Sunday's game against the Marlins and was not able to make enough improvement since then to avoid the IL. It's not clear at this point how much time he might miss. Jhostynxon Garcia is taking Abreu's spot on the active roster.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Rays' Ha-Seong Kim: Heading back to injured list

The Rays will place Kim (back) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Kim was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with back tightness and evidently the injury is bad enough to require another trip to the IL for the veteran infielder. The 29-year-old Kim has been limited to only 29 games this season due to myriad injuries, and he's slashed just .214/.290/.321 in those contests. It's not clear how long Kim will be sidelined this time around. Top prospect Carson Williams will take Kim's spot on the active roster.

  • Rays' Carson Williams: Receiving promotion to big leagues

The Rays will call up Williams from Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Ha-Seong Kim (back) is headed to the 10-day injured list, and Williams should man shortstop for the Rays regularly while Kim is out. Williams has not had a great 2025 season with Durham, slashing just .213/.318/.447 with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate. He has, however, socked 23 home runs and stolen 22 bases, so there is a tempting combination of power and speed if Williams is able to make enough contact.
