  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Dropped in order

Smith batted ninth and went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Pirates.

Smith has always hit out of the lower half of the order, but Tuesday marked his first time at the very bottom of the order. He's earned that low spot. Smith entered the contest slashing .185/.284/.200 with one extra-base hit and five RBI over 74 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rivera: Headed to majors

The Red Sox are expected to select Rivera's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Rivera reported to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, but he's now set to join the big-league roster before ever making an appearance with the WooSox. The 22-year-old has allowed just one earned run while compiling a 16:3 K:BB over 10 innings (two starts) at Double-A Portland. The Red Sox have an opening in their rotation, but they could limit Rivera to long-relief duty while he's in the majors.

  • Connelly Early SP | BOS

Red Sox's Connelly Early: Saddled with loss Tuesday

Early (1-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts across 5.1 innings.

Early had success against the non-Giancarlo Stanton members of the New York lineup, but Stanton tagged Early for a solo homer to lead off the second inning before smacking a two-run double in the sixth. It was the extent of the damage against Early, who has looked good through five starts to begin the season. The left-hander owns a 2.88 ERA and 24:13 K:BB across 25 innings. He's expected to make his next start Sunday on the road against the Orioles.

  • Jazz Chisholm 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: First multi-hit game of season

Chisholm went 2-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Red Sox.

Chisholm's two hits didn't bear any fruit, but it was notable since it snapped a 1-for-12 skid and was his first multi-hit game of the 2026 season. It only took him 23 team games to accomplish the feat. Chisholm has been dropped to seventh in the order in recent days and is slashing just .182/.276/.247 with zero home runs, three RBI, six runs scored, eight stolen bases and a 9:27 BB:K across 87 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Homers, drives in three Tuesday

Stanton went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Red Sox.

Stanton accounted for most of the offense for the Yankees, swatting a solo homer to lead off the top of the second inning before driving in two more with a double in the sixth. Stanton has now homered in two of his last four games after going 15 games without a long ball. He's slashing .253/.306/418 with three home runs, 13 RBI, seven runs scored, one stolen base and a 6:25 BB:K across 85 plate appearances.

  • Luis Gil SP | NYY

Yankees' Luis Gil: Allows just two hits in win

Gil (1-1) earned the win Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing two hits and three walks with two strikeouts across 6.1 shutout innings.

After allowing four homers and seven earned runs across nine innings in his first two starts of the season, Gil was able to keep the Red Sox off the scoreboard Tuesday. Walks are still a problem for Gil, and he's also not striking out many batters. The right-hander now owns a 4.11 ERA and 9:8 K:BB across 15.1 innings. He's likely to make his fourth start this coming weekend against Houston, but Gil could be the odd man out of the rotation once Gerrit Cole (elbow) and/or Carlos Rodon (elbow/hamstring) is ready to return.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Makes splash in return

Rutschman (ankle) went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Royals.

Rutschman made his presence felt in his return from the 10-day injured list, launching homer No. 1 on the season. The switch-hitting catcher is off to an impressive start at the dish following a disappointing 2025, when he posted a career-worst .673 OPS across 90 games. Over 43 plate appearances so far in 2026, Rutschman is slashing .316/.395/.553 with seven extra-base hits, five RBI, five walks and four runs scored.

  • Rays' Jonathan Aranda: Hits two-run homer in loss

Aranda went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, three RBI, two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday's 12-6 loss to the Reds.

After Chase Burns had breezed through five shutout innings, Aranda saw the right-hander for the third time Tuesday and took him deep on a slider. It snapped Aranda's 12-game homerless drought, and it was just his second extra-base hit since April 7. The first baseman is now slashing .229/.356/.422 with four homers, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and an 18:3 BB:K across 104 plate appearances.

  • Steven Matz SP | TB

Rays' Steven Matz: Hammered in three innings

Matz (3-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Reds, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts across three innings.

Matz didn't have it Tuesday, as he was shelled for three homers in the first two innings while walking a season-high four batters before being yanked after needing 77 pitches to record nine outs. Matz had gone at least five innings in each of his previous four starts to begin the 2026 campaign. The left-hander now owns a 4.81 ERA and 25:10 K:BB across 24.1 innings. Matz's return to starting has gone pretty well for the most part through the first month of the season.

  • Angel Martinez SS | CLE

Guardians' Angel Martinez: Homers in win

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Astros.

Martinez lofted a home run in the second inning and later scored as part of the Guardians' six-run eighth inning. His playing time has taken a slight hit since George Valera was activated off the injured list, but Martinez's .275/.324/.788 slash line with three home runs and 10 RBI over 71 plate appearances (22 games) keeps him relevant.
