  • Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Absence continuing Sunday

Kurtz (oblique) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

The 22-year-old had an MRI come back clean Saturday, but he'll still be held out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Manager Mark Kotsay indicated Saturday that Kurtz should be back soon but didn't provide a target date. Tyler Soderstrom is filling it at first base, with Carlos Cortes starting in left field.

  • Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Exiting lineup Sunday

Dubon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

The versatile Dubon will hit the bench after starting 11 straight games across three different positions. His last two starts came in center field, where he could end up seeing the bulk of his playing time until Jake Meyers (calf) is ready to return from the injured list.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Angels' Tyler Anderson: Shelved with oblique strain

The Angels placed Anderson on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a left oblique strain.

The veteran left-hander delivered five scoreless frames Friday in Houston, but that could end up being his final start of the campaign. Anderson will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 14, but oblique injuries often require longer than 15 days of recovery time. If the 35-year-old is unable to return to the mound in 2025, he'll finish the campaign with a 4.56 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 104:57 K:BB across 136.1 innings.

  • Bryce Teodosio LF | LAA

Angels' Bryce Teodosio: On bench Sunday

Teodosio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

Teodosio has been serving as the Angels' everyday center fielder for much of August, but he'll sit for the series finale in Houston after starting 18 straight games and slashing a poor .170/.237/.245 with zero home runs and one stolen base. Jo Adell will slide over from his usual spot in right field to cover center field.

  • Royals' Jonathan India: Sitting in second straight

India is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

The Royals will hold India out of the lineup for the second day in a row while he's stuck in a 5-for-32 slump. Michael Massey will step in for India at the keystone.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Angels' Jose Urena: Inks deal with Halos

Urena agreed to a major-league contract with the Angels on Sunday.

The right-hander elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Twins last week, but he was able to find another home in the majors. Urena had made 13 appearances (five starts) with four different MLB clubs this season and has a 5.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB over 36 innings. After placing Tyler Anderson (oblique) on the injured list Sunday and optioning Jack Kochanowicz to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, the Angels have two open spots in the rotation, and Urena is a good bet to fill one of those slots during the team's upcoming series in Kansas City.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Taking Sunday off

Dingler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Dingler appears to be getting a routine breather as the Tigers close out their series in Kansas City. Jake Rogers will step in behind the plate and will form a battery with starting pitcher Tarik Skubal.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | WAS

White Sox's Curtis Mead: Taking control at hot corner

Mead will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Mead will be making his fourth consecutive start after going 2-for-11 with a double and two runs over the previous three contests. The 24-year-old should be in line for a near-everyday role at the hot corner while Miguel Vargas (hand) is on the injured list.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Not in Sunday's lineup

Kavadas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Kavadas started the previous two games but will head to the bench for Sunday's series finale in Houston. Oswald Peraza is starting at first base and batting ninth against Astros righty Hunter Brown.

  • Brooks Baldwin SS | CHW

White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Resting Sunday

Baldwin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

After starting six straight games and going 4-for-22 with a solo home run, Baldwin will get a breather. Michael Taylor will spell Baldwin in center field.
