  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Out of Friday's lineup

Neto (hand) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Neto seemed to have trouble with his hand after taking a swing Thursday, so the Angels will sit him down Friday as a precaution. Oswald Peraza will pick up a start at shortstop as a result, opening up first base for Logan Davidson.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Exits with injury

Baez was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins after fouling a ball off his head, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

An awkward swing from Baez in the second inning resulted in the ball deflecting off his forehead, immediately prompting his removal from the game. The Tigers will almost certainly evaluate the 32-year-old for a concussion; meanwhile, Trey Sweeney will take over as Detroit's shortstop.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Scratched with groin tightness

Soderstrom was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Reds due to groin tightness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Soderstrom's groin first began bothering him during his pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, and it appears to still be an issue after a day off Thursday. He'll now receive another day to recover while Carlos Cortes steps in to cover left field during Friday's series opener.

  • Jose Castillo RP | NYM

Mariners' Jose Castillo: Designated for assignment

The Mariners designated Castillo for assignment Friday.

Castillo's run with the Mariners will end after just nine days, during which he gave up one unearned run in three innings across three appearances. Casey Legumina will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the vacancy in Seattle's bullpen.

  • Mariners' Casey Legumina: Back with Seattle

The Mariners recalled Legumina from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.

Legumina has fired 5.2 shutout innings while striking out eight batters since being sent down to Triple-A in mid-August. He'll now return to Seattle to take on a middle-relief role and replace Jose Castillo, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Yet to resume throwing

Hader (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Hader has yet to resume throwing since being shut down Aug. 15 due to a left shoulder capsule injury. The 31-year-old previously indicated that he'd need roughly three weeks to ramp up once cleared to throw. It's unclear when he'll start throwing at this point, but his postseason availability will be threatened if he doesn't begin soon.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Astros' Isaac Paredes: To take live BP

Paredes (hamstring) will take live batting practice Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Paredes is making progress in his recovery from a torn right hamstring and will hit off live pitching Saturday. The Astros are hoping to get Paredes back before the end of the regular season, but the third baseman will likely require a lengthy minor-league rehab stint before being activated.

  • Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Placed on injured list

The Tigers placed Gipson-Long on the 15-day injured list Friday against Miami due to neck stiffness.

Gipson-Long gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings in a start Thursday, and he'll now head to the injured list. Gipson-Long will be eligible for reinstatement Sept. 27, one day before the Tigers' final regular-season contest. Detroit activated Jose Urquidy (elbow) from the injured list in a corresponding move, but it's unclear who'll take Gipson-Long's spot in the rotation.

  • Beau Brieske RP | DET

Tigers' Beau Brieske: Recalled, placed on 60-day IL

The Tigers recalled Brieske (forearm) from Triple-A Toledo on Friday and placed him on the 60-day injured list.

Brieske has already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign due to a right forearm strain, so the Tigers will perform a bit of roster manipulation that will allow the team to give the 27-year-old's 40-man spot to the newly activated Jose Urquidy (elbow). Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) was also placed on the 15-day IL as part of Friday's roster moves.

  • Astros' Colton Gordon: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Gordon will take the 26-man roster spot vacated by Lance McCullers, who was placed on the 15-day IL with right hand soreness. Gordon will be available out of the bullpen Friday versus Atlanta. He's appeared in 16 games for the Astros this season, making 14 starts, and has a 5.67 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 64:15 K:BB across 73 innings of work.
