  • Astros' Victor Caratini: Back from IL, playing first base

The Astros activated Caratini (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Wednesday. He will start at first base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game versus the Yankees.

Caratini missed the minimum seven days while recovering from a concussion. He'll start at first base Wednesday as Christian Walker gets some rest.

  • Zak Kent RP | WAS

Guardians' Zak Kent: Sent back to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Kent to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.

Kent is clearing out to make room on the roster for Joey Cantillo , who was recalled from Triple-A to start Wednesday's game in Boston. The righty has made nine relief appearances with the big club this season, allowing five runs with a 9:6 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

  • Joey Cantillo SP | CLE

Guardians' Joey Cantillo: Summoned ahead of start

The Guardians recalled Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Boston.

The left-hander has offered a mixed bag with the Guardians this season, posting a 3.93 ERA and 80:36 K:BB over 66.1 frames covering eight starts and 21 relief appearances. The Guardians haven't indicated whether Cantillo's appointment to the rotation will be a permanent one, as his performance against the Red Sox may play a big part in determining whether he makes additional starts, gets moved to the bullpen or optioned back to Triple-A.

  • Jose Urbina SP | TB

Rays' Jose Urbina: Bumped to High-A

The Rays promoted Urbina from Single-A Charleston to High-A Bowling Green on Wednesday.

Urbina needed a couple years in pro ball to harness his stuff, but he's broken out this season as a 19-year-old at the Single-A level. He logged a 2.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 96:30 K:BB in a career-high 92.1 innings across 19 starts.

  • Nathan Lukes RF | TOR

Blue Jays' Nathan Lukes: Resting Wednesday

Lukes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Lukes had started in each of the Blue Jays' past 15 games, and since he's gone just 2-for-19 over the last five of those contests, manager John Schneider likely decided that Wednesday was an opportune time to give the outfielder a breather. With Lukes on the bench, Ty France will enter the starting nine at first base and will bat seventh.

  • Taylor Ward LF | BAL

Angels' Taylor Ward: Back in lineup at designated hitter

Ward (forehead) will start at designated hitter and bat third in Wednesday's game versus the Royals, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Ward missed two games after exiting Sunday's 3-0 win in Houston following a collision with the outfield wall that resulted in a laceration above his right eye. He feels well enough to serve as the DH on Wednesday and could return to playing the outfield as soon as Thursday.

  • Mike Trout CF | LAA

Angels' Mike Trout: Remains out Wednesday

Trout (skin infection) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Kansas City, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Trout was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 5-1 win as he deals with a skin infection, and he'll now miss a second straight start. Taylor Ward (forehead) will return from the two-game absence to start Wednesday and will fill in for Trout at designated hitter.

  • Chase Silseth RP | LAA

Angels' Chase Silseth: Heading to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Silseth to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

He's being sent out to make room on the active roster for Wednesday's starting pitcher, Caden Dana, who was recalled from Salt Lake. Silseth didn't allow a run over his three relief appearances for the Angels following his Aug. 24 call-up.

  • Caden Dana SP | LAA

Angels' Caden Dana: Recalled ahead of Wednesday's start

The Angels recalled Dana from Triple-A Salt Lake ahead of his start Wednesday in Kansas City.

Dana will be making his first appearance at the big-league level since late May. The 21-year-old holds a 5.93 ERA through 82 frames in Triple-A this season and has permitted 16 earned runs in 16.1 innings at the big-league level. With Victor Mederos (shoulder) and Tyler Anderson (oblique) both on the shelf, Dana could receive multiple turns through the Los Angeles rotation.

  • Nick Sogard 3B | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Summoned from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. He'll start at second base and bat eighth in the Red Sox's series finale against the Guardians.

Sogard will be joining the 28-man active roster as a replacement for outfielder Roman Anthony, who was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain, which is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. Though the Red Sox have two openings in the everyday lineup with Anthony and Wilyer Abreu (calf) on the shelf, Sogard won't necessarily be in store for a full-time role. Sogard's status as a switch hitter along with his ability to play multiple infield and outfield spots could work in his favor if the Red Sox elect to take a platoon approach to either of the vacant lineup spots, however.
