  • Giants' Casey Schmitt: Pops fourth homer

Schmitt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds.

Schmitt's lone hit of the game opened the scoring in the second inning, and it was all the run support Blake Snell needed in his no-hitter. Over four contests since rejoining the major-league roster, Schmitt has gone 3-for-11 with two home runs and a triple. The infielder doesn't have an immediate path to everyday playing time, especially when he has Brett Wisely and Marco Luciano to compete with in the middle infield. For the season, Schmitt is slashing .231/.255/.519 with four homers, eight RBI, eight runs scored and no stolen bases over 55 plate appearances.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Registers steal in win

Rocchio went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 8-4 win over the Orioles.

Rocchio has started four of the last five games, suggesting he is clawing back some playing time from Daniel Schneemann, though the Guardians have faced three southpaws in that span. Over his last seven contests, Rocchio is 5-for-19 (.263) with two extra-base hits. He's at a .211/.304/.308 slash line with four home runs, eight steals, 21 RBI and 37 runs scored over 308 plate appearances this year. Cleveland has tried a number of players at shortstop in 2024, but the position remains up for grabs.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Takes infield practice Friday

Crawford (finger) was able to take infield practice with his one capable hand before Friday's game against the Phillies, MLB.com reports.

Crawford donned a protective cast on his injured hand and was able to get through the session without any issue. He's slated for an X-ray on Monday, which will be exactly two weeks since he suffered a fractured pinkie finger against the Angels. Crawford won't begin any sort of progression before Aug. 19, and Mariners general manager Justin Hollander labeled that timeline as "aggressive" and the earliest possible date the veteran shortstop could take that step.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Begins light activities

Wilson (hamstring) began a light baseball progression earlier in the week that includes hitting off a tee, MLB.com reports.

The promising rookie is also playing catch up to 90 feet and doing some light jogging. Wilson remains without a timetable for return, although these latest developments spark some optimism he can be ready for activation at some point before the end of August, likely following a brief rehab assignment.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Two steals against Atlanta

Edwards went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases in Friday's loss to Atlanta.

The switch hitter continues to be a terror on the basepaths, going 8-for-8 on steal attempts over the last 11 games. Edwards is also batting an absurd .447 (17-for-38) during that stretch with eight runs, eight RBI and a 7:8 BB:K, and he's cementing his spot as the Marlins' shortstop, and leadoff hitter, of the present and future.

  • Anthony Volpe SS | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Remains hot Friday

Volpe went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Friday's loss to Toronto.

Volpe took Kevin Gausman deep in the fifth inning for his 10th homer of the season. The shortstop had two additional knocks in the loss, giving him his third multi-hit performance over his past four contests. Volpe has hit safely in 13 of his past 14 games and is slashing .356/.367/.644 with four home runs, five doubles, nine RBI, 10 runs and four thefts over that span.

  • Oneil Cruz CF | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Five hits against D-backs

Cruz went 5-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Pirates as a team managed only 13 hits in total, but Cruz nearly single-handedly kept them in the game with the first five-hit performance of his young career. The 25-year-old shortstop is slashing .311/.357/.589 over 23 games since the beginning of July with five homers, four steals, 15 runs and 20 RBI despite a 32.7 percent strikeout rate during that stretch.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Homers in win

Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBI in Friday's win over the Reds.

Fitzgerald knocked an RBI double in the second inning and added an insurance run with a solo blast in the seventh. He was stuck in a small 3-for-20 skid before Friday's big performance. Over the last 14 games, he's gone 19-for-52 (.365) with 13 extra-base knocks, including nine homers. The hot stretch has pushed Fitzgerald's season slash line to .313/.371/.633 through 140 plate appearances.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Reaches 25-steal mark

Witt went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 9-2 win over the Tigers.

Witt was on the front end of a double steal in the seventh inning, and he scored on a wild pitch later in the frame. While this wasn't his best game recently, he extended his hitting streak to 15 games, a span in which he's gone 30-for-59 (.508) with four home runs and three steals. The superstar shortstop is up to 25 thefts while adding 20 homers, 78 RBI, 94 runs scored and a .348/.396/.600 slash line through 111 contests.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Slugs pair of solo homers

Seager went 3-for-3 with two homers, three runs scored and three RBI in Friday's 11-6 loss to Boston.

The two-time World Series MVP opened the contest's scoring when he laced a 371-foot solo shot off Kutter Crawford in the first inning. Seager then cracked another solo homer -- this one traveling 410 feet -- off Crawford in his next plate appearance in the third. The Texas shortstop has found a groove since the All-Star break, hitting .333 (17-for-51) with three homers, two doubles, nine runs scored and five RBI over 14 games.
