Diaz started at third base Thursday before moving to second when Jose Altuve left with knee discomfort.

Diaz is the primary fill-in at third base for Alex Bregman (hamstring), who is nearing a return. Bregman's return would mean the end to everyday at-bats for Diaz, unless Altuve's injury leads to an extended absence. More will be known after Altuve undergoes an MRI on Friday.

Mateo made his first career start in center field Thursday and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout.

Mateo had logged time in both right field and left field as well as at second base prior to Thursday, and he added center field to the list against the Angels as San Diego elected to give Trent Grisham a breather. Mateo hadn't started a game since Aug. 28, so his versatility may be his primary contribution as he looks to stick on the active roster in spite of a .188 season average.

Diaz went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 8-4 win over the Rangers.

After returning from a month-long stint on the injured list last Saturday, Diaz clubbed a three-run shot off Lance Lynn to give the Astros a 4-0 lead Thursday. It was his first long ball on the campaign after clubbing nine a year ago. Diaz has seen time at third-base recently, but will likely be playing other positions in the near future with Alex Bregman (hamstring) close to returning.

Anderson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI, a walk and another run scored during Thursday's rout of Kansas City.

Anderson extended Chicago's lead with his seventh homer of the season, this time a solo shot against Danny Duffy in the fourth inning. He also walked and scored in the second while tacking on singles in the first and seventh frames. The speedy 27-year-old is having himself a successful campaign, batting .347/.389/.610 with 30 runs scored.

Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Phillies.

Turner drove a pitch deep off the wall that was misplayed by Andrew McCutchen, allowing him to race around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. He now has eight home runs on the season. Turner has hit well of late, recording three or more hits in four of his past seven starts. Overall, he's maintained a .366/.420/.634 line with 29 runs scored, 21 RBI and three stolen bases across 157 plate appearances.

Fletcher (ankle) was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 31.

Fletcher was set to miss his third consecutive game Thursday, and he'll get more time to fully recover from his left ankle sprain. Manager Joe Maddon said Thursday that Fletcher's ankle is still sore. It's unclear how much time he'll miss due to the injury. Luis Rengifo and Franklin Barreto could see increased playing time in his absence.

Fletcher (ankle) remains out of the lineup Thursday against the Padres.

Manager Joe Maddon has continuously downplayed the severity of Fletcher's injury, but he'll sit for a third straight game after suffering a sprained ankle Sunday. Franklin Barreto will start at second base Thursday.

Correa is not in Thursday's lineup against the Rangers.

He is hitting .188 with zero home runs in 32 at-bats over his last 10 games. Jack Mayfield will start at shortstop and hit ninth.

Story went 3-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk during Wednesday's 9-6 win over San Francisco.

The 27-year-old received the day off Tuesday since he was 0-for-8 with six strikeouts over the previous two contests, but he provided significant production in his return to the lineup. Story has a .306/.383/.576 slash line with nine homers, 31 runs, 20 RBI and nine stolen bases through 36 games.

Baez went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Pirates.

Baez took Nick Tropeano deep in the fourth inning for his sixth home run of the season. The Chicago shortstop is still batting just .200 this season, and he'll obviously need to do better than 1-for-5 at the plate to raise that average, but he certainly has the talent to get hot in a hurry.
