Brice Matthews LF | HOU
Astros' Brice Matthews: Swats fourth homer
Matthews went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 12-2 loss to the Dodgers.
The 24-year-old led off the bottom of the first inning by ripping a Tyler Glasnow (back) sinker into the Crawford Boxes in left field, but it was the only lead the Astros would hold on the afternoon. Matthews is up to four homers on the season, and three of them have come in the last nine games -- a stretch in which he's batting .323 (10-for-31) with five runs and eight RBI as he begins to establish himself as an everyday player for Houston.

Blaze Alexander 3B | BAL
Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Sitting after six straight starts
Alexander is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Following a stretch of six consecutive starts at four different positions, Alexander will head to the bench. Despite going 7-for-19 at the dish to begin May, Alexander is still slashing just .222/.276/.247 on the season. Alexander's defensive versatility could allow him to continue seeing semi-regular playing time, but he's not doing much yet to warrant fantasy attention outside of AL-only leagues.

Wenceel Perez RF | DET
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Dropping out of lineup Wednesday
Perez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
Perez will ride the pine for the final game of the Tigers' homestand after he started in each of the previous five contests and went 4-for-18 with a walk, three stolen bases, three RBI and a run. With Perez taking a seat, Detroit will make room in the starting nine at designated hitter for the newly recalled Jace Jung, while Riley Greene, Matt Vierling and Kerry Carpenter fill out the outfield from left to right.

Austin Martin RF | MIN
Twins' Austin Martin: Hitting bench Wednesday
Martin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
He'll hit the bench Wednesday, but after opening the season in a short-side platoon role in the outfield, Martin is beginning to encroach on the left-handed-hitting Matt Wallner's playing time against right-handed pitching. Martin picked up starts in three of the Twins' previous four matchups with righties and is sporting a team-best .886 OPS over 100 plate appearances on the season.

Gavin Lux SS | TB
Rays' Gavin Lux: On track for weekend return
Lux (shoulder/ankle) is tracking toward a return during the Rays' series in Boston this weekend, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Lux initially went on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement and was later delayed by a left ankle sprain. He's fully recovered now but has not done much on his rehab assignment, slashing .169/.329/.288 with one home run and a 14:20 BB:K over 17 contests. Lux is poised to be the Rays' primary second baseman against righties and will be making his team debut when he gets into a game.

Shay Whitcomb 3B | HOU
Astros' Shay Whitcomb: Called up to majors
Whitcomb was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.
In response to Carlos Correa (ankle) being placed on the 10-day IL, Whitcomb will join Houston for the series finale against the Dodgers on Wednesday. The 27-year-old is back with the Astros after being demoted Monday and is likely to fill a reserve role.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Astros' Carlos Correa: Shelved with season-ending injury
The Astros placed Correa (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
The transaction was merely a formality after Correa told media members earlier Wednesday that he would require season-ending surgery after tearing a tendon in his left ankle during batting practice prior to Tuesday's game against the Dodgers. Correa will face an expected recovery timeline of 6-to-8 months, which should put him on track to be ready for the start of spring training. Houston recalled Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding transaction, but Isaac Paredes should step in as the Astros' everyday third baseman in Correa's absence. In the short term, Nick Allen and Braden Shewmake are likely to share the shortstop position until Jeremy Pena (hamstring) is activated from the IL.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Astros' Carlos Correa: Set for season-ending ankle surgery
Correa will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a tendon tear in his left ankle, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Correa hurt his ankle during batting practice prior to Tuesday's contest versus the Yankees, and the decision to have surgery was made after he consulted with a foot specialist. The expectation is that Correa will require 6-to-8 months to recover, so he should be ready for spring training next year. With Correa out, Isaac Paredes will serve as the Astros' everyday third baseman, and Nick Allen should be the primary shortstop until Jeremy Pena (hamstring) returns.

Bobby Witt SS | KC
Royals' Bobby Witt: Two-hit night in win Tuesday
Witt went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Guardians.
Witt smacked a first-pitch double in the first inning, giving him 10 two-baggers for the season, sixth most in the American League. The power hasn't been there for Witt to start the season, but he's currently on a five-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 16 straight contests. Witt is slashing .287/.358/.434 with three homers, 16 RBI, 15 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and a 17:30 BB:K across 162 plate appearances.
